hotelchic Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 I am beyond frustrated. :(I've been trying to bid the past week for a hotel in Chicago-downtown area. In the past I have gotten La Quinta for $90, the Palmer House for $85, and the Inn of Chicago for $80. At this point I'm looking for a hotel 2.5+ (prefferably 4, lol) for around $67. I haven't been able to secure a bid yet though! Any tips?To add- I have bid for as low as a 2 star for 67 in Millenium park/loop/river north area. No luck so far!
AaronJB Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Rates do vary substantially in Chicago from day-to-day and these dates are traditionally more expensive due to people coming for shopping after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, looking at HOTWIRE, this night definitely looks busy, with the cheapest downtown options being a 3* for $180 and a 4* for $176. $67 unfortunately doesn't appear possible downtown for these dates, but would be not a problem in the 'burbs. A downtown bid is probably going to take quite a bit higher. Is $67 your definite max?Additionally, sharing any prior wins would be greatly appreciated.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
hotelchic Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 I could probably go up to 80-90 with taxes; I just do not want to go over 100. Unfortunately the burbs aren't an option (I live in the burbs, staying downtown for a mini-staycation!).
Dianacheng Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 i am looking for a room at the exact date you want....T_T, i tried for a few days and already tried 80 for 4*, but got no luck.Don't know whether there would be cheap room released at the last few days.
thereuare Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 hotelchic,Currently rates are somewhat high for these dates (perhaps people coming to the city early on Friday for Black Friday and then staying overnite??) and, at least at the moment, a sub-$100 win does not seem likely. Could you change your dates to the nite before perhaps, as i think your chances would be much better based upon the lower rates i'm seeing for 11/25.Dianacheng,Welcome to BetterBidding and thanks for sharing your own failed bid info for these dates. If you'd like help with your own stay please start a NEW TOPIC.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. hotelchic Posted November 22, 2011 Author Report Posted November 22, 2011 Sorry for so many questions, LOL.Unfortunately I can't change my dates at all but am willing to change my star level. I have stayed at La Quinta before (my best PRICELINE stay ever!) and I think it's a 2 or 2.5 star. What do you think my chances are for getting a lower star level hotel at around 90?
AaronJB Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 $90 still definitely may not be enough; I'd advise not going for 2* - there are definitely some 2* properties that aren't so nice (especially in the Loop zone) What appears to be the La Quinta is showing on HOTWIRE for $180 for this night. Not sure what's going on, but hotels are not aggressively discounting.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
