l8dybug Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 We are planning a trip to the city for a couple of days after Christmas. We'll be taking the train up from DC. Our plan is to go to Radio City Music Hall for a show and limit our activities to Rockefeller Center area. Based on proximity, I'd like to be in MTE, MTW or CPS at a 3.5-4* hotel, but if there are other recommended areas, I'm open to them as well. Any bidding strategy you can offer would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
AaronJB Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please provide your desired budget per night and we would be happy to offer suggestions on how to proceed.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 In addition to your budget, are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5* OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. l8dybug Posted November 14, 2011 Author Report Posted November 14, 2011 I'd like to stay at $200/night or under. I am willing to pay more for a 4*, but to answer your question, the goal would be the least expensive 3.5* or better.Thank you.
thereuare Posted November 14, 2011 Report Posted November 14, 2011 I am willing to pay more for a 4*, but to answer your question, the goal would be the least expensive 3.5* or better. This is contradictory... but it perhaps sounds like you first want to try for the least expensive 3.5* or better for this trip?Note that at the 3.5* level and under the CPS zone has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms. As well, in the MTE zone there are some 3.5* and lower rated properties which are up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... are either/both of these scenarios accetpable? Please confirm and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. l8dybug Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 We are thinking of a trip to NYC for a couple of days. Seems like Dec 28th is when it starts to get real crazy, so targeting Dec 26-28th. Looking for a bidding strategy for 4* -- would like to stay under $200. Any chance I'll get anything at that rate? We don't know the city very well, so would appreciate input on zones. We don't mind walking.
thereuare Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. For most users MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB all work fine for the average user. If these zone(s) are accetable i would bid as follows:At the 4* level in NYC you have FIVE re-bid zones. l8dybug Posted November 22, 2011 Author Report Posted November 22, 2011 I struck out. Perhaps I should go down to a 3.5*? Any other advice?
thereuare Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 HOTWIRE has a 4* hotel in the ESB zone on your dates for $192/nite (your rate may differ by a few dollars) with:Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, BusinessThis matches previous reports for the St. Giles The Court... would this work for your plans? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and/or how it goes and we'll take it from there. l8dybug Posted December 22, 2011 Author Report Posted December 22, 2011 Circling back to this as our trip is Monday. At the time, I could not get anything on Priceline within my range. I am not a huge fan of Hotwire (bad past experience), so I didn't go that route. Instead, a friend recommended the Roger Smith Hotel and I got a Jr. Suite for $195 night using a coupon code (we are traveling with our 12 year old son, so it's important to have space for him). My question is related to what you are seeing now and if you think I can save a significant amount of money on Priceline right now? It seems like rates may have fallen since I was trying a couple of weeks ago. Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted December 22, 2011 Report Posted December 22, 2011 I only glanced at the previous posts in this thread, but i think the bigger issue using PRICELINE for more than double occupancy in NYC as most hotels have such a high percentage of rooms with only one bed, rooms with two beds are often considered an upgrade, and many hotels don't have rollaways (nor can many rooms accommodate them)... is this a risk you're willing to accept? While i do think you can do better than the Roger Smith hotel thru PRICELINE, i also think PRICELINE is too much of a risk (imo) given that you need more than double occupancy, making your back-up hotel the better bet. Also, if you're not aware, note that the Roger Smith has a mandatory resort fee (one of the few, if not the only, NYC hotel which does) so you should probably take that into consideration when calculating your total cost.Let us know if/how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and your searches too (please click each of these links before replying, thanks) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
l8dybug Posted December 23, 2011 Author Report Posted December 23, 2011 I think I'll just stick with my plan as it stands. Thanks!
