aisleseat3.14 Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Hi,I am hoping to get a hotel in Waikiki during the period of 11/28-12/2. My dates are somewhat flexible in that I can stay either the entire 4 nights, or just stay during a 3-day period. If possible I'd love to stay at a beachfront property. (I'd also consider staying at The Modern.) Does anyone have any advice on the best way to go about bidding to get the best deal/hotel? My one restriction is that I cannot stay at the Hyatt. Unfortunately, we had a horrible time at this hotel last year, so we'd like to avoid staying there again.
superman30 Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 If you are ok with Modern then you can start bidding on the RESORT with ZONE selected as Waikiki Marina. If you want RESORT/4* on Waikiki beach, then you will have to select the ZONE Waikiki Beach. (But then you can get Hyatt also).
thereuare Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages. The Hyatt was last reported to the board as a 4* hotel in the Waikiki Beach zone, so if you're hoping to avoid this property you can bid:Resort level in the Waikiki Beach zoneResort level or 4* in the Waikiki Marina zoneWhat is your expected budget (per nite before taxes and fees) for this stay? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. aisleseat3.14 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Report Posted November 10, 2011 We had hoped to bid around $80, which probably won't get us a resort property. Unfortunately it looks like we will have to bid at the 3 and 3/12-star level to avoid the Hyatt. Are there any beachfront properties in that class?
thereuare Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Please start by reading your messages.2x...it looks like we will have to bid at the 3 and 3/12-star level to avoid the Hyatt. This won't work, as the star rating you select is the minimum you're willing to accept, so your 3* or 3.5* bid could always be upgraded to a Resort property (such as the Hyatt). Your only option would be to avoid the Waikiki Beach zone entirely and stick with the Marina zone (assuming that zone, and all the hotels in it, are acceptable)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. aisleseat3.14 Posted November 11, 2011 Author Report Posted November 11, 2011 Hi,So it's pretty apparent that we aren't going to be able to afford to book in the resort (and probably 4*) range for a Waikiki beachfront hotel. Any tips for securing a 3* hotel in that same zone? What price would you start at?Our dates are from 11/28/2011-12/02/2011. We can also go down to three nights instead of four (to play around with the rebid option). I hear that sometimes after your winning bid, Priceline offers you another night at the same price. Thanks,M
thereuare Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 ...the star rating you select is the minimum you're willing to accept, so your 3* or 3.5* bid could always be upgraded to a Resort property (such as the Hyatt). So if you bid for a 3* hotel in the Waikiki Beach zone, as per above, how do you intend to completely avoid the possibility of the Hyatt? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click this PRICELINE link before replying.Thanks. aisleseat3.14 Posted November 12, 2011 Author Report Posted November 12, 2011 Given our budget limitations it seems highly unlikely that we will even get the Hyatt. We've already bid $85 in the 3* category and are still without a hotel.
thereuare Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 I agree it's unlikely, but you posted "I cannot stay at the Hyatt" so i thought you needed to eliminate any possibility of receiving that hotel. So if you've already bid up to $85 for a 3* hotel in the Waikiki Beach zone is that your limit? What is your next move? Your options come down to:-raise your maximum bid-lower your star rating-include other nearby zones-SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID-wait it out and hope for lower prices in the next week or twoPlease use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
