Priceline Hotel: 3.5* Chicago North Shore (Deerfield) Hyatt Deerfield

Need 3 star hotel for one night - 11/23/11. Visiting family in Lakeview, just south of Wrigley Field in Chicago. Neighborhoods surrounding O'Hare are 30 minutes away in (miserable) Chicago traffic. Nearest neighborhood with 3 star properties is Skokie/Niles/Evanston. Have tried that neighborhood, adding free rebids in Lincoln Park, Hyde Park, and Franklin Park at $40, $42, $43, and $45 with no success. The Hilton Orrington in Evanston (great property - been there before) is available on a regular reservation at $90, but that puts the total well over $100, especially when parking is added ($22 I think). I'm really puzzled why I haven't won something like the Holiday Inn in Skokie, for example. Is the night before Thanksgiving a busy night for hotels? I didn't think so, but maybe I'm off base. I'd appreciate suggestions from anyone, please!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages.

Traditionally this is a slow nite for hotels (with the exception of NYC and any other cities which have HUGE parades where people come from all over to march and watch). With this noted, $45 is usually the very low end of the typically accepted range in this zone, and it can often take a bit more.

You could probably get a 3* hotel downtown in the $60's... would this be of any interest OR do you prefer to stay in the suburbs? (i was thinking might be able to mass transit to your family and not have to deal with the traffic at all)

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

Thanks for the suggestion, but downtown is not a good option. We are landing at O'Hare around 10:00 p.m. I want to grab the rental car, drop older daughter with the family in Lakeview/Wrigleyville, then wife and I stay nearby for a quick night's sleep. Then it's on to Milwaukee for the Thanksgiving holiday the next day. That's why downtown won't work. O'Hare North or South would be a possibility, but our party of three is in trouble if we can't get two double beds for that night. Schaumberg is questionable for the same reason, although there's a ton of nice 3 star properties in Schaumberg. Niles/Skokie/Evanston is really the best, but that has not worked so far.

Thanks for your continuing help with this. Great board!

Would the Northbrook/Glenview/Deerfield areas work? Definitely a bit further North than Evanston, but not too terrible, especially if you get something in Glenview/Northbrook (which would be the North Shore zone on PRICELINE.) I'm a little surprised that your bids haven't been accepted in Evanston, as - as noted - this is not a particularly busy night. There's a 3.5* in Northbrook/Glenview on HOTWIRE (which I'm guessing may be the Hyatt Deerfield) for $49, so I'm guessing you could be looking at $40-45 for a 3.5* in the Deerfield zone - I'd definitely start at $40.

Definitely consider stopping at the Brat Stop (bratstop.com) on the way up to Milwaukee.

Thanks for the suggestion. If that Hotwire offering is really the Hyatt Deerfield, I've stayed there before and enjoyed it. I'm going to re-assess this whole picture and decide what to do. I'll post my plans/successes as soon as they firm up.

When searching for Northbrook for 11/23, I'm seeing a 3.5* w/Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis; the Hyatt has been previously seen with that amenity set. I'm seeing it this evening for $50, but the price you see may vary slightly. I'd consider bidding 3.5* Deerfield for $40, although there are a couple of other "known" possibilities in that zone - the Embassy Suites Deerfield (which can be seen from the Hyatt) and the Marriott Deerfield Suites (which is a bit further North.)

Took advice from BB board member after trying again unsuccessfully for Niles/Skokie/Evanston up to $45. Got Hyatt Deerfield at $40 on first bid. $52.06 with tax and Priceline fee.

Congratulations on your success!

Looks like a very nice rate for a Hyatt branded property. Glad to see you were flexible and able to search this area in order to get a great deal.
