jt086 Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 I am looking for 3*-4* in MTE, MTW, MSG, TS, Empire State area....really anywhere midtown, accessible. I stayed in February at W New York using Priceline for 98.00 a night which I know is a steal and am looking for some help on spending 100-130 a night as it is a rather long stay. Any bidding help?
AaronJB Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, this is probably one of the most difficult periods of the year in terms of hotels, given people coming in for holiday shopping vs Feb, which is traditionally the slowest period of the year. Unfortunately, based upon rates I'm seeing, you're probably looking at more in the $150-170 range for a 3*, and possibly moderately higher if hotels are not aggressively discounting because they're expecting holiday traffic walk-ins.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 This is one of the more expensive times of year and something will likely have to 'give'... either budget, star rating, location, etc. What is the best deal you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels? Would staying outside of the city in an area easily commutable be an acceptable alternative? What about Downtown? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option?Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jt086 Posted November 8, 2011 Author Report Posted November 8, 2011 To be honest, I'm not super picky about star rating. Location is more important. Basic amenities and nothing extremely bad of course, but somewhere around 150-160 a night would be awesome.
thereuare Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 At 3.5* and under in NYC the MTE zone has some properties which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... would this be acceptable? Also, the CPS zone has the Hudson Hotel, which while centrally located, has notoriously small rooms (~150 sq.ft)... would this be acceptable? Please confirm which of the following zones, at the 3* level, you'd be willing to accept:CPS, Chelsea, ESB, HK, MSG, MTE, MTW, QB, TS(i'm asusming that Downtown, UES, UWS are not acceptable since they are not really considered to be 'midtown')If you use the search box on the top right corner of this page you'll be taken directly to the NYC region and can see the zones on a map if you'd like to verify which would work for your needs)Let us know the zones and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jt086 Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 CPS would be acceptable as long as it was close to a subway. At the 3* level I would accept: ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, and TS.
jt086 Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 I am looking to find a hotel midtown, soho, chelsea, empire state area, times square. Something around 150 would be great considering I've spent much less other times of year (I'm aware it's a busy period). I'm having no luck on Priceline. Any advice from anyone out there?
thereuare Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. As you're aware that this is a busy time in NYC, what you paid for previous stays (during much slower time periods), is not really relevant to this stay.At the 3* level you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 3* MTE, MTW, and TS...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, ESB, MSG...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, MTW, and TS...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE, ESB, MSG...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE, ESB, and TS...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, MTW, MSG...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE, MTW, and MSG...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, ESB, TS...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE, MTW, and TS and CPS...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE, MTW, and TS and ESB...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* MTE, MTW, and TS and MSG...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS and CPS and ESB and MTE...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS and CPS and ESB and MSG...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* TS and CPS and ESB and MTE...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, and TS...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, and CPS...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3* CPS, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, and TS...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Since this an extended stay you could see if this same property is offered for the first (or last) nite of your stay and then again for the balance. If so, you could purchase the solo nite in order to 'look behind the curtain'.
