jenkler Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Is there a way to prevent winning the Whaler? I wouldn't mind any other "Resort" in that area, but am concerned when bidding priceline I might win the Whaler. I definitely don't want a timeshare. Any pointers?
jenkler Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 Is there a way to be sure I don't win the Whaler? I saw that the Whaler is listed as a "Resort" and I'd be happy winning any other resort. Any suggestions?
thereuare Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! When bidding on PRICELINE you need to be willing to accept any hotel at the star rating (or higher) in the zone you choose. However, with the above noted, the Whaler has not been reported to the board as a win in over 4 years. While a hotel can re-appear at any time, i would think the Whaler would be a low probability outcome, but it's a risk you would need to be comfortable with in order to move forward and use PRICELINE.Alternately, you could use HOTWIRE and pick a hotel which can (hopefully) successfully identify, or at the very least, see some characteristic which would negate the offer being the Whaler (ie- as an example, if the HOTWIRE offer showed a Pool icon but the Whaler didn't have a pool)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. jenkler Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 Ok, that's helpful. I've been trying priceline for two days. So far only listing Resort, then rebidding at 4* level. No success yet. Do you think I should add 1* level and so I can rebid today? I don't think there are any hotels in that level. Thanks!
thereuare Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Do you think I should add 1* level and so I can rebid today?NO!!! If PRICELINE offers a hotel at a given star rating you should assume that they offer such a hotel. Even if they don't, you're subject to any 2*, 2.5*, 3*, 3.5* hotels in the zone as well. What are the date(s) of your trip? What bid amounts have you made at each star level? What is your maximum bid at each star level? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. jenkler Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 So far, I've bid up to 160 on Resort and 4* for 2/4-2/8. The highest I'd like to bid is 180 for either. Thank you!
thereuare Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Do you think I should add 1* level and so I can rebid today? With your stay 3 months away, why even take the risk??Rates are currently high for these dates. Assuming you're only bidding the Kaanapali zone (and not the Wailea zone) you have TWO re-bid zones at the Resort or 4* levels.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select Resort Kaanapali...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect Resort Kaanapali and re-bid zone2...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. jenkler Posted December 10, 2011 Author Report Posted December 10, 2011 We're all set. After several days of slowly inching up my bid, we are headed to the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. $195/night. Since Kahului does not offer resort level hotels, I used it as my re-bid zone. Thanks for all your help!!!
