cskelton Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I had a hard time getting a deal for this weekend. I started looking for a 4* bidding at 80$. I worked my way up by 5s to 130 and got rejected the entire way up. It must be a busy weekend in that neighbourhood with the lights festival on.So I switched gears and went for a 3.5. I got rejected at 100, but got it at 110. Only saved 19 bucks over their listed price of 129. Meh.Of note, if you do a regular search in the "Loop - Grant Park" area, this property doesn't show up. But when you do the bidding thing with area 7 "Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area" it's included.

cskelton Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 Do you mean thru their "retail" listings... as when you bid on PRICELINE no hotel names, or availability, is shown.Yes, that's what I mean. The hotel I won blindingly when bidding didn't show up in what seemed like the corresponding area of the retail listings when I was looking at prices for comparison. All it means is the neighbourhoods aren't lined up the same in retail vs bidding, but I was a little surprised. This could have cost me if, for example, something similar happened with Skokie, which I had included in some of my bids because it has no 4* hotels in the retail listing.
thereuare Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Yes, the zone boundaries (and often names) of the 'retail' listings are different than those of the 'bidding' zones. As well, there are some hotels which participate in the retails side of PRICELINE but not the name your own price side, and likewise, some hotels which participate in the name your own price side but not the bidding side. This is why you DON'T want to use the retail listings to determine your re-bid zones. The correct method, and the only one which should be used, is outlined here: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. Feel free to read this thread and ask any questions you may have, and confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding for your next hotel.
