lamb Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 Looking for a hotel in Manhattan for July 25th and 26th. Of course we want the highest 4* but what will we get for say around $110 a night? Any zone is fine. Does anyone know if 2* are really horrible??
thenewbie Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 Are you looking for 2 nights (7/25-7/27) or 1 night (7/25-7/26)?Is $110 your limit, and you'd like to give the 4* level a try or do you want to stay in a 4* and are willing to raise your limit (to what?)?
lamb Posted June 17, 2005 Author Report Posted June 17, 2005 It is for two nights, July 25th and 26th. I suppose I can raise it- looks like $140 will get a 3* or 4* from reading prior posts but I would rather pay less. We will only be sleeping there, not hanging around and then I could use my $$ to buy more"stuff". With that said, I was wondering if a 2* would fly for $110 and if so would it be rather S*C*A*R*Y staying in a 2 star? I am a bit of a germ phobe and do want safety but maybe you know from experience that 2* is not so bad!?
thereuare Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 Personally i would not bid for a 2.5* in NYC as you could get any 2.5* hotel... there may be some that are 'ok', but given you can't choose which one you'll get, i think it's best to stay away. Are you willing to bid up to $140 now? If so, is price or star rating more important? When you say "any zone is fine"... is Downtown also an option? Have you been to NYC before? lamb Posted June 17, 2005 Author Report Posted June 17, 2005 Thanks- you saved us!!!!Yes been to NYC twice and I love every bit of it! BUT- if that is not as safe as the other areas then that zone is out. 4* rating is more important than $140, is there really that much difference between 3* & 4*? Isn't it a fine line? Maybe start bidding @ 120?
thereuare Posted June 17, 2005 Report Posted June 17, 2005 4* rating is more important than $140Not sure what the above means? (please clarify so we provide a strategy that meets your needs)It's not that downtown isn't safe... it's just somewhat out of the way to where the typical visitor wants to be.Yes, there can be a fine line between 3* and 4* hotels... ratings are subjective. What may be important in rating a hotel to some may be trivial to somebody else.In some zones many even 'complain' when priceline upgrades their 2.5* bid to a 3* hotel... because they prefer the lower quality hotel to the one they were upgraded to. lamb Posted June 18, 2005 Author Report Posted June 18, 2005 Are you willing to bid up to $140 now? If so, is price or star rating more important?...You asked, and that's why I answered 4* is more important.I will try tomorrow when I can rebid. Can you suggest on how I should proceed? A resonable staring bid and what you think 4*are currently going for? (End of July)Again, thanks!
