es2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Report Posted November 6, 2011 Hi,I am trying to win a hotel on Priceline for 11/11 through 11/13 and have struck out 3 days in a row now. I am looking in CP, TS, MTE, MTW, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, UES, UWS. Can anyone help me? I have bid all the way up to $162 as I am trying to stay under $400 for the two nights with tax. Thanks!

es2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Author Report Posted November 6, 2011 4*, 3.5*, 3*, 2.5*Just trying to get anything 2.5* or above
thereuare Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 Currently rates are high for these dates and $165 is not enough for a 2.5* or better hotel. If you're already bid up to your limit something is going to have to 'give':-increase your budget-lower your star rating (not really recommended in NYC)-include other nearby zonesYou could also wait it out and hope a hotel loads lower priced inventory in the next few days, but there is no way to know of this would happen or if rates more even higher. What is the best rate you're able to find thru conventional booking channels? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. es2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Report Posted November 7, 2011 There is a 3* in Downtown Manhattan for $165 per night average on Travelocity for those dates. But it is one of their top secret hotels and as listed as having a 3 star review.

es2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Author Report Posted November 11, 2011 Won the Helmsley for $130 on 11/11 and Ramada New Yorker for $196 on Travelocity for 11/12. Can you give recommendations for great places to eat in this area? I saw the post for the bagel place.. any other good spots? Thanks!!!

es2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Author Report Posted November 12, 2011 It was a top secret hotel and the only ammenity it showed was non smoking 3 star for $196. Looking for a restaurant/bar in the midtown central that has good sangria and or margaritas. Relatively cheap. Thanks
thereuare Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 ...good sangria and or margaritas. Relatively cheap. The first part exists in the city... the second part usually not. Beer and (sometimes) wine can, at times be had somewhat inexpensively, but other drinks are for the most part consistently expensive. There may be a local spot here or there for sangria but i'm not familiar with them, however, here is an idea of two...If you don't have to drive later in the day (or if leaving from Newark Airport) come to Hoboken on Sunday for "Sangria Sundays" at Mikie Squared... $10 for large pitchers of sangria (Red or White). This is the Sangria that got me hooked on sangria (it's pretty strong). While in Hoboken, stop by East LA (may have $5 margarita specials on Sunday for the football games)... pass on the food, but this is the margarita i compare all margaritas too. Stick with the frozen that come out of the machine... extremely strong (restaurant policity is limit 3).If you want to stay in the city:Blockhead Burritos (few locations around the city) often has good margarita specials but don't know of any current promotions... you could call a few locations. Some locations have a bar area but i don't think they get much of a 'bar scene', but no problem sitting at a table and just drinking.Caliente Cab Company (mexican restaurant) used to have an unlimited margarita brunch but i think it was discontinued and/or now limited to 2-3 drinks... i haven't been to brunch here ever, and haven't drank here in years.GOOD MARGARITAS but not cheap:Rio Grande... $10-$12 and not that big... but the frozen are very potentRosa Mexicana - a 'gourmet' margarita and at ~$12-$14 it's top shelf and strong, but not cheap and not sure if worthwhile unless you're looking for a somewhat upscale experienceEnjoy.
