austin2nyc Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Hi, good board members! It's going to be my first time traveling up to NYC and I'm trying to get a decent hotel at a decent price. I've scanned the boards and decided to use Priceline's Name Your Price option. I've managed to get a room at the W for 11/6-8 for $225 a night. But I still need a room for that Saturday! I can't seem to secure anything for that night.I would love a 4* but a 3.5* is acceptable, if it's near a subway. I am willing to pay up to $280-300ish. My ideal zones are MTW, MTE, or Times Square. If any of you seasoned NYC travelers or natives think another zone would suit this tourist newbie just fine, I'll seriously consider it!Thank you! :)
AaronJB Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Was the W purchase via PRICELINE or HOTWIRE? If so, it would be greatly appreciated if you could post the details of the purchase as a separate thread. Thanks. But I still need a room for that Saturday! I can't seem to secure anything for that night.Thank you! :)Have you already attempted to bid for 11/5? If so, how high have you bid and for what star ratings/zones?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
austin2nyc Posted October 27, 2011 Author Report Posted October 27, 2011 Thank you! :) The W purchase was made through Priceline's Name Your Price. And I have tried bidding for Saturday 11/5. I've picked MTW as my desired first pick and a 4* level. My initial bid was $250, which was rejected. I added Queensborough/Coney Island/Long Island City/Madison Square/Upper East Side as they do not have a 4*. My last rejected bid was $310.
thereuare Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Please start by reading your messages. The NYC Marathon is on Sunday, so Saturday is likely a very busy hotel note with even those somewhat local to the area staying in the city that nite to pick up their numbers on Saturday and take the provided transportation to the start of the race. Are you willing to stay in any other area besides MTW? As per above this is going to be a very busy nite in the city, and any inventory offered to PRICELINE may not be discounted as deep as you would like... by adding more zones, it gives more hotels the opportunity to accept you bid (which just be sheer numbers increases your chances of success)Is there a point at which staying outside of the city is worthwhile? For instance, even when adding other NYC zones, i think you'll need to be closer to, or over, your current $310 bidding mark to be successful (at current prices)... yet you could stay in the Jersey City zone at a 4* hotel, which easy mass transit into NYC, for $160/nite... about half of staying directly in Manhattan. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

austin2nyc Posted November 3, 2011 Author Report Posted November 3, 2011 Not inexpensive but not outrageous either. I'm satisfied. Thank you!
