sparty23 Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 I am very new to hotwire and these discussion boards. I have read through previous posts and narrowed down the possibilities to Felix Hotel, the Sax, and Palomar Hotel. The amenities are the following:Boutique HotelSmoke Free RoomsFitness CenterBusiness CenterRestaurant(s)High-Speed Internet Access100% hotwire customer reviewsPrice $122I was wondering if anyone has better input on which hotel it would be. I am really hoping to get the Palomar Hotel and not the Felix. I thought the customer reviews may implicate it being the Palomar since it is highly reviewed. Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
thereuare Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! The description provided matches previous reports for all three of the hotels above, and with no additional information provided by HOTWIRE, there is no way to determine which would be more likely then the other. However, this seems like a pretty good deal for dates including New Years Eve and with a 100% recommendation from previous HOTWIRE customers, i wouldn't be too concerned with quality for this one... is there something in particular for this stay you're looking for OR one of the hotels you wouldn't want at this price? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide to do for this stay or if we can be of further help. sparty23 Posted November 3, 2011 Author Report Posted November 3, 2011 I am just not a fan of the Felix. I have stayed there before and was very disappointed, so I was debating holding off until a different potential listing comes up that isn't a boutique. The price of 122$ is great and all but the Sheraton is offering a similar rate through their website, which is the safe bet to go with but I'd like to change it up. I'm just concerned with getting stuck with the Felix again. Does the customer rating stay consistent with hotels on Hotwire, or could they associate the 100% with say the Felix, for example? Because from the research I have done, it seems pretty finite that the Palomar is the only one with that highly of reviews and boutique.
thereuare Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 The customer reviews are not a reliable indicator, as we can often seem them change from one search to the next. While this hotel is currently showing 100%, it would just as easily show 90% or 95% on a subsequent search; as well as possibly change to 'we are still gathering reviews for this property'. So you won't see a hotel which shows 60% satisfaction suddenly change to 100%, but within ~10% fluctuations is frequently seen.AaronJB might have some insight as he researches this area quite frequently and i'm sure he'll add his thoughts once he sees this thread. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 I would not consider the customer review % an entirely reliable indicator, and it has been seen at times to switch from search-to-search. I'd say that the Felix having a lower rating than the other two is likely, although there's no way to guarantee, as there's nothing to check the current ratings against. What would be your desired max budget per night? I'd be happy to look around and suggest other options.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
sparty23 Posted November 3, 2011 Author Report Posted November 3, 2011 Thank you for all of your help. My max budget would be somewhere between 350-400, but obviously trying to keep it as low as possible. All of the places we plan on going are in the Mag Mile/Streeterville or North Mich Ave/Gold Coast area
AaronJB Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 The Amalfi is $161 and change per night on sale on Orbitz (use coupon ORBITZ5); while more expensive, this includes free breakfast and reception. The Fairmont is $143 on sale on Orbitz (using coupon ORBITZ5), as well, although that's a bit South of the river. The W Lakeshore is showing for $88, but unfortunately for 12/30 only. With the 4* HOTWIRE that is the Felix, Sax or Palomar, I'd be surprised if 100% customer approval would be the Felix, but again, unfortunately the customer review % is not a reliable indicator, and there is the risk it could be the Felix. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Orbitz links to start your purchases and searches.
sparty23 Posted November 8, 2011 Author Report Posted November 8, 2011 I ended up booking the Omni through the hotel itself. I was able to get the trip for 410$ with a AAA discount and through their loyalty program. I didn't want to risk the Felix. Thanks for everyones help
