wlai Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Hi everyone, appreciate your help, but I'm interested in getting TWO ROOMS for 12/18 to 12/23, in either the more central areas of Bloomsbury-Marble Ach, or Mayfair-Soho. I can get a nice apartment via AirBnB for USD$300/night, taxes included, so hoping to get two nice rooms 4* or 5* via PL for about the same or even lower. Any shot of $150 / night during that time? Recent successful bids seems to hover above that in those areas. What would be the best bidding strategy in any case? Could use some help. I've read the rebidding process post but have lost track of it, so a pointer back to it would be great as well! Thanks!
Romelle Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 The Priceline Re-Bidding Explained thread is the first post in the Tips and Tricks..... - General Priceline Tips area. If you still aren't sure just which the free rebid zones are at the 4 and/or 5 star level, post back your assumptions and somebody will double check for you.Romelle
wlai Posted October 31, 2011 Author Report Posted October 31, 2011 That's the thing: According to PL the Mayfair-Soho and the Bloombury-MarbleArch both have 4*, 3*, 2*, and 1* available. Does that mean there's no rebid at all?
Romelle Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 You need to look on Priceline for other zones that don't have the star level you are bidding (or higher). A clue - in London bidding there are currently 5 free rebids at the 5* level and 2 at the 4* level. Assuming I managed to count right on my fingers....Take another look at that post I mentioned. It has detailed instructions for determining those free rebid zones. You have to be in Priceline to do it. RomelleIt is important that people understand the process and work it themselves, because the free rebid zones change regularly. You have to run through the process just before bidding to be safe.
thereuare Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Use the technique in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained to determine your re-bid zones... not the hotel lists on the board. Please read the previously referenced thread and see if you can determine your TWO re-bid zones available when bidding 4* in this area. Since I'm looking for 4 or 5 stars in Bloomsbury-MarbleArch or Mayfair-Soho, so I think I can do these free rebid zones. Is that correct?5*BloomsburyBloomsbury+WembleyBloomsbury+KensingtonBlommsbury+HammersmithBlommsbury+FinsburyMayfairMayfair+WembleyMayfair+KensingtonMayfair+HammersmithMayfair+Finsbury4*BloomsburyBloomsbury+WembleyBloomsbury+HammesmithMayfairMayfair+WembleyMayfair+Hammesmith
vanpoodle Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Yes, that's right, but I think there's another re-bid available for 5*, too. If you search by member, smilingboy did a fantastic post on all the permutations available on Sept 7, 2008 I think under re-bidding explained. It's buried in there, but essentially if you have 5 re-bid zones he did a chart showing how to get 30 re-bids in a session if that helps. It works, I've used for London.
thereuare Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 There are currently FOUR re-bid zones at the 5* level in London and you have correctly identified them :) (always double check just before bidding to make sure that nothing has changed)If you don't want to make all 30 bids as referenced above, in addition to the bids you listed:5*BloomsburyBloomsbury+WembleyBloomsbury+KensingtonBlommsbury+HammersmithBlommsbury+FinsburyMayfairMayfair+WembleyMayfair+KensingtonMayfair+HammersmithMayfair+FinsburyYou could also further make these bids:Bloomsbury+MayfairBloomsbury+Mayfair+WembleyBloomsbury+Mayfair+KensingtonBlommsbury+Mayfair+HammersmithBlommsbury+Mayfair+Finsbury... and at the 4* level:4*BloomsburyBloomsbury+WembleyBloomsbury+HammesmithMayfairMayfair+WembleyMayfair+HammesmithBloomsbury+MayfairBloomsbury+Mayfair+WembleyBloomsbury+Mayfair+HammesmithThere are further combinations available if you needed to break it down further, but to get started, did you want to bid up to your limit for a 5* hotel first before trying for a 4* hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 4* or better for this stay? \Let us know and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. vanpoodle Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Well, look at that. Further proof that just because there were 5 free re-bid zones for 5* in London 3 weeks ago, doesn't mean it will be the same today! So a hotel in City has either been upgraded to 5* or there's a new property on board. I will watch closely to see what gets reported!
