manicmonday18 Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 I'm planning on being in NYC from 12/9 to 12/11 and am trying to get the best deal possible. My desired zones are Empire state building, midtown east, midtown west, and times square.Over the summer on HOTWIRE I got the InterContinental Times square for $187 a night. The place was phenomenal and an amazing deal. With it being the holiday season hotwire has similar hotels at double that price, so I'm going to try hotwire. Any suggested bidding details? I tried the $135-140 range and added those zones one by one, and obviously no luck. What bids should I be trying and is sub-$200 any sort of possibility? I am pretty set on those 3 zones so I would also consider going down to a 3 star level...but have reservations about doing so because of bedbugs and the simple fact that I don't really want to, haha. I will not pay $400 a night though, so I may be forced to. Any suggestions? Any other zones that I am missing that are walkable to Times square/rockefeller center/convenient things? I do not want to stay downtown, so if I were to add a zone it would be towards central park. Thanks in advance!
thereuare Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 I never say anything is impossible, but at current prices a 3.5* or 4* under $200 does not seem likely. Before suggesting a strategy and your options, is it possible that you can delay your trip by one weeek... if you could come to the city 12/16-12/18 i think you'll find rates much more reasonable.Let us know and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. manicmonday18 Posted October 29, 2011 Author Report Posted October 29, 2011 I am set on the dates as I'm coming to town for a hockey game and already have tickets and transportation bought. I have to pay either way so if it's over $200 a night so be it, I just want a strategy to pay as little as possible while still maintaining comfort and cleanliness, most importantly. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
thereuare Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Is the hockey game at MSG? If so, thoughts on staying in Jersey City/Hoboken? You could likely get a 4* hotel near the PATH train for under $150/nite... the PATH is a 15 minute ride into midtown and is one block from MSG.To put things in perspective, currently a 4* hotel in midtown will likely cost you $300+, a 3.5* about $275+. You do lose a bit of convenience staying in Jersey City, but if you're looking to stay within a budget, it's an excellent option and worth the savings when Manhattan rates are so high, imo.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. manicmonday18 Posted October 30, 2011 Author Report Posted October 30, 2011 The hockey game is in long island actually but we are taking the megabus so we will arrive in manhattan and leave from there. convenience and short amounts of time make it essential that we stay in manhattan...price is important but wasting time on travel makes me willing to pay more.. I would rather pay a higher price and stay in the desired areas anyhow. I suppose we could reduce our star levels, etc just kinda worried about not having the cleanliness and amenities I am used to. Are 3* in the aforementioned zones usually adequate? Like I said I will end up paying, I'm just trying to save some money if I can. Let me know what bids you would start at and what your thoughts are on the selection of 3* hotels in those areas. Thanks so much for your time.
thereuare Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Let's try your desired zones up to $200 at the 3.5* level and if rejected we'll take it from there. NOTE: at 3.5* and under in MTE some of the hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway... would this be acceptable? If so:At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. buckeyejer Posted November 2, 2011 Report Posted November 2, 2011 Hello. I'm also considering going the weekend of the 9th, but I see you mention it would be much more reasonable the week of the 16th. In general, how much of a difference are you talking about. I generally try to book a 4 star. Thanks much!

AaronJB Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 Unfortunately, this listing has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board; my guess is that it MAY be the Days Inn Broadway with a new internet icon, but it could also be something else.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
