Priceline Hotel: 4* Miami (South Beach - Central) Mondrian A Morgans Hotel

I have been trying for several days to get a 4* hotel in South Beach (Ocean Dr area) for Nov 13th 2011 and so far I am unsuccessful :(

Ideally I don't want to go over $200 but I have bid up to $215 as I have seen that price awarded in the past.

I know about the re-bidding and have been doing that.

So, I guess my question is: is it unrealistic to think I might get a hotel for these prices? If so, what price would you suggest?

And yes, I am always using the links from here :)

While not optimal, a cheaper option I'm seeing is a 3.5* on HOTWIRE in the South Beach-Ocean Drive area for these dates with the amenities boutique and near beach. The Winterhaven has been seen with this amenity set previously (although with only a couple of amenities showing, there is a chance this may be a new hotel or previously reported hotel not showing all amenities), so that would be my guess - this property has not yet been reported to the board as participating on PRICELINE's bidding side, although it is a 2.5* on PRICELINE's retail side. Otherwise, HOTWIRE also has a 4.5* for $289 in the zone and a 3* condo for $352.

What would be your desired max bid per night for 4*?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Thank you Aaron for your reply and for your suggestion. I would prefer a higher star rating than your Hotwire suggestion but I will keep it in mind.

If I get desperate I may bid as high as $230 if that doesn't work I will have to consider another area.

According to the hotel list on here for Ocean Dr the only 3.5* that has been awarded is the Marriott and I would be happy with that at the same rate I am bidding for the 4*. I'm scared to add 3.5* in my re-bids though because someone recently reported getting the Bently hotel as a 3.5* and that property goes for less than what I have been bidding (so if I was awarded that I would be seriously overpaying). However, on the Bently's website they say they have no availability for the night I need. So if their website is saying they are full what are the chances I would be awarded that hotel via Priceline?

I still have more than 2 weeks to go so I guess I should just be patient. I'm just not very good at the waiting game!

While the Marriott may be the only 3.5* property reported to the board, there could be others, so there is no assurance that that would be the hotel hotel you receive if you lower your star rating to 3.5*. See the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List for further info.

We have seen hotels won where their websites were otherwise showing sold-out, however, this is much more the exception than the rule. If the hotel's website (ie- not Expedia, Travelocity, etc) shows sold-out then the odds of you receiving that hotel are greatly reduced, but not eliminated entirely.

Thank you for your advice! I tried again today, went up to $220 and still no luck. I will try again tomorrow...

So I am way too impatient and couldn't wait. I started looking at other areas and at Hotwire. Figured out that the Mondrian (most likely) was going for $195 on Hotwire (reg $265 on their website). I really liked this hotel, location was not ideal, but for the price... I wanted to see if I could get it cheaper via Priceline and I did! Will post my "win" as a seperate thread. Thanks again for all the help!

Was just awarded the Mondrian South Beach for $165 for Nov 13th, 2011.

I started my bid at $130 and kept rebidding (adding zones with no 4*) at $5 increments until I was awarded.

I'm really happy with this as I am pretty sure its this hotel that Hotwire has listed for $195 and the regular rate on their website was $265.
