Soupuu Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Tried bidding for two rooms for a group trip in the Arlington Heights area and was unsuccessful today.Started @ $30 for 11/18 - 11/20 - bid rejectedadded algonquin, bumped up to $35 - bid rejectedadded Lake Zurich, bumped up to $40 - bid rejectedI was successful in winning a bid for the Elk Grove Sheraton in that zone a couple of months back for 2 rooms @ $35 each. Was hoping to stay there again, because it's a hop skip and jump away from my group's favorite grocer, Mitsuwa Marketplace :)Should I be expecting much higher than $40, given that that is the weekend leading into Thanksgiving? Was thinking I should add Schaumburg as a re-bid zone too, since it seems fairly close to the area of Arlington I want to be in.
AaronJB Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Schaumburg would not be another re-bid option as there are 3* possibilities. That said, Schaumburg is a nice option if you wanted to stay there, and there's a great IKEA (which is fun to browse around and the food court offers a 99 cent breakfast special.)In terms of Arlington Heights and bidding any higher, I'd move up very slowly - by $2's ($42, $44, etc.) because I think you're likely very close to a win. I would also recommend Super H-Mart (http://www.hmart.com/), which is an excellent Asian grocery store (and does have a very nice food court area) in the North burbs - although that's a bit of a trek East of Schaumburg/Arlington Heights.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Soupuu Posted October 27, 2011 Author Report Posted October 27, 2011 In terms of Arlington Heights and bidding any higher, I'd move up very slowly - by $2's ($42, $44, etc.) because I think you're likely very close to a win. Thanks for the advice! I've been bidding for the past two days, and still no luck. Tried the following:Tues:Started @ $40 - bid rejectedadded algonquin, bumped up to $42 - bid rejectedadded Lake Zurich, bumped up to $44 - bid rejectedWeds:Started @ $44 - bid rejectedadded algonquin, bumped up to $46 - bid rejectedadded Lake Zurich, bumped up to $48 - bid rejected[retried starting with Schaumburg]Started @ $40 - bid rejectedadded Arlington Heights, bumped up to $42 - bid rejectedadded algonquin, bumped up to $44 - bid rejectedadded Lake Zurich, bumped up to $46 - bid rejected-----Seems like folks were open to staying in Schaumburg, so for my next bid today I'll be including that area if I need a rebid. Should I keep trying to hit in the $40 range, or all these bid rejections trying to tell me that it's going to be $50+?
AaronJB Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 You could try bidding up to the $50 mark, but I would not go any higher than that, at least for the time being. I really don't think that this should be a busy time period in the 'burbs, and I'm a little surprised your bids haven't been accepted yet.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Soupuu Posted November 1, 2011 Author Report Posted November 1, 2011 Have been trying since last thursday with no luck. Have gone up to $49 in my bids. Maybe it's time to breach the $50 point? I'm just as surprised as you are that I'm not hitting.
Soupuu Posted November 2, 2011 Author Report Posted November 2, 2011 Finally hit today!Started @ $40 with Arlington HeightsOffered to raise to $53, instead added Algonquin and countered with $42 - rejectedAdded Lake Zurich and raised to $44 - rejectedAdded Schaumburg and raised to $46 - accepted!Courtyard By Marriott Arlington Heights South - 3*Dates: 11/18 - 11/20Price: $46/nightRooms: 2Nights: 2Room Subtotal: $184.00Taxes & Fees: $31.48Total: $215.48Thanks for the help!
