hopeland Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Tried for several days to score a priceline/hotwire deal with no luck. Bid up to about $270 everyday since last Tuesday with no success.Just tried again to this evening. Success!Backup reservation was for the Sir Francis Drake at $329/night. Very few properties had availability.Retail price for the Intercontinental was $349.A 4.5 hotel matching the Intercontinental description for $275 showed up today on Hotwire, so I decided to try my luck with Priceline first.Bid USE + USW + SOMA.Followed a customized bidding strategy of : 150 > 175 > 200 > 220 > 230. It was the optimal strategy for me: valuable time spent vs. try to get the best deal possible vs. likelihood of bid acceptance.Bid accepted at $230 with no counter-offers.Used the BB PRICELINE link as usual. Thanks!
thereuare Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Congratulations on your success! While not cheap in dollar terms, looks like a nice deal for this nite given the higher then usual rates... glad to see you're happy with the outcome.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
hopeland Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 Yes, it's all relative.I know it's midweek and rates tend to be higher then, but there must be some special event. 4* rates were in the 400s, 500s and even 600s.So, all in all, I'm happy to be getting the rate that I did.
