(EDIT TO ADD: see post below, another user just reported this amenity set as the Best Western Seaport Inn so that woudl be my best guess for this one)While Downtown is do-able, assuming most of your activities will be in/around midtown, i would sooner go with a more central property. Rates are affordable enough this time of year that i don't think its necessary to stay downtown, as this is usually only recommended when there is a big difference in cost between midtown and downtown. The Sheraton NY is 'ok', it's very well located and the reviews have been decent since they renovated the rooms a few years ago, but still not my first choice in the city. Based upon your options above, i would sooner take my chances bidding for a 4* hotel on PRICELINE unless there is something in particular you're looking for from this stay.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Sherrym78218 Posted October 23, 2011 Author Report Posted October 23, 2011 Thank you so much for your help and insight - very much appreciated. Especially for the edit to add the Best Western Seaport Inn. Not sure how I feel about that hotel -- and it's location is not ideal.I don't know why but the Priceline process is so much more intimidating! I might just try it though. If you have time to respond (I know you get a lot of requests), what would you suggest for Priceline bidding? Restrict to Midtown East, Midtown West and Theatre District? I'm just concerned about getting at the "edge" of some of the areas, you know?Again, thanks for your insight!
AaronJB Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 The MTE area does have some properties that are rather far E in MTE (The Millennium UN and the Hilton Manhattan East) at the 3.5* level, which puts them somewhat out of the way. Otherwise, MTE, MTW, ESB and CPS (although 3.5* CPS does have the possibility of the Hudson, which has infamously small rooms, even for NYC) are very nice areas. I will note that I'd suggest against TS; it's usually the most expensive zone in the city and is often the most crowded/congested. Better deals are (usually) able to be had in the nearby zones.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 We're happy to suggest a strategy for whatever you'd like to try, but please first decide if you want to give PRICELINE or try or not, and if so your maximum bid for this trip. We'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow. At the 4* level MTE, MTW and TS all tend to work well for the average user, but so does ESB and CPS, so i would consider these as well (but ultimately up to you if you want to include these or not... at the 4* level there are fine, at the 3.5* level there are some you may want to include/avoid).
