Jompis Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Hi!First of, I hope I don't break any rules by writing. Seems strict for a good cause and don't want to offend.Me and my buddy is going to New York on the 29th of November and will leave the 4th of December.I have never been to New York, just San Diego a couple of times, so I have no idea of where to live.We are not a couple and would therefore prefer a bed that you can actually make into two, I don't know if it's standard of not.I guess we at least want to stay at Manhattan, but don't know where. I think someone here will know better. We need fitness center and high-speed connection, a pool is a bonus. We can spend up to ~2300USD for the entire stay(2 person, 5 nights)Thank you very much in advance!Edit: New date( 29th - 4th ). Can I change topic?
thereuare Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! There are expensive dates in NYC, but your budget of nearly $400/nite is substantial as well.To give you an idea of the cost for the 'requirement/preference' for two beds... if a room for double occupancy would be sufficient (it could have one or two beds... all that is guaranteed is that it will accommodate two people) you're looking at ~$300/nite for a 4* hotel. To assure separate sleeping accommodations (where the second 'bed' could be a rollaway brought into the room, a pullout sofabed, etc) you're looking at more like $400/nite.So it's up to you to decide if the extra bed, which could be a sofabed, is worth the extra $100/nite expense. After you receive the hotel you can call them and request a room with two beds, but no assurance the hotel will be able, or willing, to accommodate your request. If your request is denied (or you're told that it will be based upon availability at check-in) you can try to negotiate a paid upgrade to a room with two beds (of which you'll have above ~$100/nite to negotiate vs. if you had reserved a room with two beds from the onset)... but there is also a chance that the hotel may not be willing to negotiate such an upgrade before (or during) check-in, even for an additional fee.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.PS- please click each of the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links immediately above before replying. Jompis Posted October 23, 2011 Author Report Posted October 23, 2011 Thank you for your answer. Good to now that double beds will make it so much more expansive. Do you have any idea of which area to look for a hotel in? We are regular tourists, we'll see some attractions, maybe do some work and workout at the hotel. But mostly relax. Thanks!
thereuare Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 Which zones are recommended, and which zones should be avoided, will be based upon whether you're looking to use PRICELINE or HOTWIRE.If you're willing to accept the 'one bed' risk then we can look at both services, whereas if you want to ensure two beds (with the caveat above that the second 'bed' could be a rollaway, pullout sofabed, etc) then we'll only look at HOTWIRE.. and each service uses different zones and boundaries. What are your thoughts/decision regarding the one/bed two bed scenario? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 The Affinia Dumont is $360 per night (and comes with a couple of minor extras) on Expedia for a studio suite with two doubles. Your budget was $2300 for 5 nights; for 6 nights, the total for this property is a little over $2,500, so it falls within the desired range. Not only would this offer two beds (and the property is also well-reviewed and in a nice area), but more space (the room is 400-450 sq ft; most properties in NYC have rooms that are on the small side, and under 200 sq ft is not unheard of.)If you could risk not getting two beds, then there are more, and cheaper possibilities. However, the Affinia Dumont is among a number of regular rate options. It depends on whether or not possibly not getting two beds is worth risking. Additionally, in terms of using HOTWIRE, you could try searching for 2 adults and 2 children in an attempt to indicate more than 2 people in the room to ensure some form of bedding for the entire party.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or Expedia or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
