MychaelP Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Bid $55. Offered to bid again at $73 so we bid $66. Won Indian Wells Resort. Checked Expedia and it was $49. Thought we'd get Courtyard by Marriott. First time overpaid on Priceline. Called to let them know I was disappointed and was given $10 credit to use for up to 5 nights until Feb. (one time use). They were not too nice on the phone, but probably to be expected with a discounter.Did not use the link from this site as I forgot and did it from work. Will do it next time.I understand it's always a gamble but first time to overpay from other sites is new to me. Not too happy, but will still have a great time enjoying their pool. First visit to this hotel. Not sure I'd recommend Priceline after this, but maybe I'm just still mad about the overcharge. Can someone forward me a link I can save to my bookmarks to link this site to PRICELINE or HOTWIRE?
thereuare Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Sorry to hear you overpaid for this property.Another advantage of bidding more than day of arrival (i'm assuming that is what you did) is that PRICELINE guarantees the best price up until the day before you travel. In the scenario above, they would have not only matched the room rate, but given you a $25 refund on top of that. Please try to remember to use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board for your future travel purchases (i did email you some links and the proper way to bookmark them)Hope you're enjoying your stay. MychaelP Posted October 22, 2011 Author Report Posted October 22, 2011 I got your links thank you. Will use next time (probably in December). Hotel is OK, stuck with two double beds due to priceline they told me. AC is loud and only has low or high setting but after 4am it was below 75 outside so we opened the door. Nice pool, fun live music in the evening. Did not know that Frank Sinatra played on this same little stay. It is interesting that they call this place a RESORT but priceline does not consider it one. Will probably use hotwire then for this area in the future to better know if there will be a $20 fee. Thanks for the tip about their pricematching. Do you know if they price match to Expedia also? I'll have to read their pricematching terms closer. My mistake. It would be great if you had a separate forum here for San Diego and the Palm Springs area. They are widely traveled and it would make it easier to find information.Valuable site though and I thank you for that. Will use your link next time. And I just linked them on facebook for some friends who sue priceline so hopefully they also will check out your site.
thereuare Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 Yes, PRICELINE will match Expedia or any other publicly available rate (ie- the rate must be available to the general public, no AAA, Government, AARP, etc). but you have to make the claim at least one day before your trip begins. Here is a link to Priceline Big Deal Price GuaranteeIf you enter "Palm Springs" or "San Diego" into the QUICK SEARCH in the blue banner at the top of the page you can create your own 'virtual' forum for whichever cities you like... you can even further filter it down to the zone, search "San Diego Downtown" and get all pertinent threads related to just the Downtown zone (or San Diego Quarter for all topics related to the San Diego Gaslamp Quarter zone, etc, etc)Thanks for helping to spread the word about BetterBidding! :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
