dante Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 Hello - first time user, love the site!I am taking my family (wife and 2 kids ages 6 and 8) to Chicago from 10-27 to 10-29. We will be out during the day and home fairly early so I figured that the Loop, Grant Park, Millenium Park area would be best for us. A pool is desired. The Palomar is desired except for the $320/night online rate! Using HOTWIRE through your site, I see a few options:4 star with:fitness center, business center, pool(s), High Speed Internet Access, Restaurants, Spa Services for $1103 star with:complimentary breakfast, pool(s), fitness center, business center, laundry, internet for $1353.5 star with:fitness, laundry, restaurant, internet for $156Any ideas what hotels these may be? Is there any way to narrow my chances down to The Palomar? Should I be looking at a different area? We are taking the train from Milwaukee and want to visit the standard sites for kids (shedd, millenium park, field museum, etc.) and would love recommendations for fun restaurants.thank you!
AaronJB Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please confirm the zone for each of the listings and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID (as well as make city suggestions.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 From your topic title i'm assuming these are all in the Loop zone?If so, best guess for each would be:4* - Palmer House Hilton3* - La Quinta Inn and Suites3.5* - Club Quarters Central LoopThanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
dante Posted October 18, 2011 Author Report Posted October 18, 2011 Thank you for the quick responses! Yes, i'm looking for something in the A, H, or J zones. One last option I've found in the J zone is a 4 star hotel 'super savings' $94 with the following amenities:Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Internet, Business CenterWhat is your best guess for this hotel? Thanks again!
AaronJB Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 The Museum Campus (J) zone 4* could be a possible match for the Hilton or Hyatt McCormick; I wouldn't recommend this, as if it's the Hyatt, that really puts you pretty far South and there's not much around it besides the McCormick Place convention center. In terms of the HOTWIRE offerings in the Loop zone, the potential Palmer (4* Loop) would be the best option in terms of price/value. The La Quinta and Club Quarters (which doesn't have a pool) are further West, and the rooms at the CQ are definitely on the small side. The rooms at the Palmer - depending - may also be a bit small as well, given the historic nature of the property, but would be the better choice for $25 less than the potential CQ.I will note that the Loop area can be quiet/very quiet later in the evening, although if you don't plan on being out late, it's not much of an issue. If you plan on being out later into the evening, I'd recommend the Mag Mile/Streeterville 4* for $105, which is showing fitness, restaurant, business, internet. Unfortunately, no pool. This would be a possible match for the Hyatt, Sheraton, Westin River North or Hard Rock. Also a bit cheaper than the potential Palmer and likely more going on in this area if you plan to be out later. Please let us know if you have any city or hotel questions.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
dante Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 Alright - today is the day! I believe that the Museum Campus is probably too far, as you say. I'm focusing on the Loop Zone 'H' and Magnificent Mile Zone 'A' and need a pool for the kids. Today's deals are similar with one exception...4 star in the Loop for $113 w/ pool (probably the Palmer House as you said before)3 star in the Loop for $159 w/ pool (probably La Quinta as you said before)3.5 star in the Magnificent Mile for $77 with pool, fitness center, business center, restaurant and internet.Any idea as to what hotel this may be?thanks again!
AaronJB Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 The 3.5* Mag Mile is likely the Doubletree. That is a nice hotel and in a very nice area, but the problem would be that the pool is an outdoor pool. That said - really nice price for this property, and $36 cheaper (which could go towards meals or museums) than the Palmer.Let me take a look and see if any other options in this general range are available.Edited to add: not seeing much else in this price range, although I do like the Embassy Suites Downtown for $159 on Expedia rather than the potential La Quinta on HOTWIRE.Still, I think if pool isn't totally essential and you're not going to be in the room a ton, the potential Doubletree is a really good rate for a nice, well-located property.Thank you for using the site's Expedia, HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
dante Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 Good catch about the pool - looks like it is closed after Labor Day. I look forward to any other options. We will have our car with us - although we'd like to stay in the downtown area.
AaronJB Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 In terms of pool:HOTWIRE downtown:4* Possible Palmer/3* Possible La QuintaTravelocity has a 4* in its "Top Secret" section that is labeled "Loop-Mag Mile-River North" (the "map" section notes the zone where the hotel could be within) for $91 when searching for 2a/2c, but unfortunately, there is no way to know which hotel this may be. It does list it having a pool, though. There's also two other 4*'s with pools - for $110 and one for $123 - in the same section. No Travelocity "Top Secret" hotels have been reported to the board in Chicago, unfortunately. There's also the Embassy for $159 which would offer free breakfast/reception.Thank you for using the site's Travelocity, Expedia, HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links.Usually I'd also recommend the 'burbs, but HOTWIRE prices in the North burbs are not too much different than comparable downtown prices.
dante Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 Great information! One last question...We're leaning towards nixing the pool - pushing us back to the Doubletree. A quick pass and it shows up one more option - a 4* in the mag mile area for $92, 95% recommended, business, fitness, laundry, spa, restaurant, internet... any thoughts on what this could be?
AaronJB Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 I'm seeing a 4* Mag Mile-Streeterville w/Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Spa; if this is also the same listing you're seeing, this would be a likely match for the Hyatt. The Hyatt is right on the river, on the South side of it. The Doubletree is just over the river on the North side of it, and a couple of blocks further North. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
dante Posted October 26, 2011 Author Report Posted October 26, 2011 We went with the one you thought may be the Hyatt and it was! Thanks again for all your help. We saved over $60 per night using HOTWIRE from your site.
AaronJB Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Very nice result for this recently renovated Hyatt, which is also quite centrally located. Glad you are pleased with the result and are looking forward to your stay. Please let us know if you have any city questions.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
