jp714 Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Hi,I was planning on visiting NYC in November, but I came across the $34 Hotwire rate for the Flatotel for Oct 27th. I impulsively booked 2 rooms so now I would like to find 2 rooms for the 28th and 29th. At the 4* level, do you think $180 including taxes will be enough for zones TS, MTE, MTW, or CPS?
AaronJB Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Please post the HOTWIRE Flatotel win as a separate thread (including zone, price, star rating and amenities), then reply to this thread. Thank you. :)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
AaronJB Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 $180 w/taxes included is about a $145ish bid. I think that's unfortunately going to be unlikely for a 4* win for these dates, but is worth trying. I'd start at $125 and work higher by $5's using re-bidding. I think a win for these dates may require as high as $165-185. (before taxes/fees.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

jp714 Posted October 17, 2011 Author Report Posted October 17, 2011 Got it! Could you please advise of a bidding strategy. I will set my budget at $175 plus tax. I also have the $9 bonus per night, so can we factor that in?
thereuare Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE and MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS and CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MTW and TS...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MTW and CPS...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* TS, MTE, MTW, CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175You can either bid the amounts above or deduct $9 to account for your bonus money. jp714 Posted October 20, 2011 Author Report Posted October 20, 2011 Thank you for your help, but decided to stick with original dates of Nov. 17-21. Do you know if Hotwire will let me transfer the reservation to someone elses name? Anyhow, I would like to bid for Nov17-21. Do you think I can work with the same budget?
AaronJB Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 HOTWIRE and PRICELINE do not allow transferring reservations to another name. Occasionally, some have reported being successful working something out with the hotel, but this is rare. Based upon rates I'm seeing for these dates, I think you could work up to $175 for these dates as well, although it may end up taking mildly higher. Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 My guess is that you'll need to be a little over $200 for these dates, but why not start with the above and we'll take it from there. If the above is rejected, i do think that you may benefit from SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID if you're willing to change hotels mid-stay (as it appears you were willing to do do previously), but let us know if you try the bidding above and how it goes and if turned down we can discuss your options. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
