Meow Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 We are going to NY for a week last week of July. I don't mind changing Hotels- therefore does anyone know if bidding two times on Priceline give us a better chance at a better deal and higher rated hotel? I am thinking that including the weekend- when rates are higher- will hinder any offers at a better hotel. Better to lowert the hotel class on the weekend rather than miss out on a nicer hotel for the greater part of the week. Any knowledge of this? Much appreciated. Also is Hotwire the next step after Priceline for good deals? I was poking around on Hotwire and they don't look so great to me.

Meow Posted June 14, 2005 Author Report Posted June 14, 2005 I hope this is the reply field! :) July 21-26! I don't think this is a real popular time to go, but I did try on Saturday for a 4* up to 120, a no go!
thereuare Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 What zone(s) did you bid when rejected at $120?I would try for a 5 nite continuous stay first. We'll suggest a strategy, but do you have a maximum bid? How much would it be worth to your a nite to not change hotels? (or is price more important than not changing hotels?) Meow Posted June 14, 2005 Author Report Posted June 14, 2005 I tried all the zones for 4* , $120, and was rejected. Are chances better closer to the date or advance such as it would be now? I don't care about having to switch Hotels, it affords the opportunity to experience NYC & all it has to offer, each area has a different feel. My max through Priceline for this possible 4* will be $150, any more than that I can rent an apt online for something kinda charming, and no hotel fee's either! But I prefer a nice hotel- I think I might have a chance being it is going to be hot humid July, but something tells me when you add that weekend you cannot get a good deal. I once got The Stanhope @ $80 a night, (awesome!) but that was 7 mos after 911 so I think things were lean then. BUT- This has spoiled me. Next trip Oct 2004, I got Park Central for $150 per night (not impressed) and did the rest of the stay @ Your Stay New York City, that too was $150 a night and liked that better than Park Central.

Meow Posted June 14, 2005 Author Report Posted June 14, 2005 Another question...In your advice you did not include Upper East side and West side, may favorites and where The Stanhope is! (you never know!) Is there a reason for this? Impossible?
Meow Posted June 19, 2005 Author Report Posted June 19, 2005 BTW- I was successful- The Waldof $147 per night!
thereuare Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Congratulations on your win.For the entire length of your stay?Do you recall the highest bid you made prior to this acceptance which included the MTE zone?Enjoy your stay. lamb Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Yes, thank you. Oddly enough I see in my notes it was $144! Next try $147 (3 measly dollars) was a winner! :) I read on the website they do not allow tank tops or faded jeans in the lobby, I am very much in fashion- but I happen to wear tank tops, especially in humid July! I hope that does not apply to passing through the lobby! :) And thanks for this site! I felt like a DUM DUM to begin with but get it now!If you can suggest any reasonable- cool- quaint- fun- restaurant that most tourists will never know about (I want to be with the locals) that would really be a bonus! :o
