Fuzzy5 Posted October 13, 2011 Author Report Posted October 13, 2011 I would be travelling to NY in november 2011 and want to stay at a good 4 star hotel in times square area.Require a hotel for the nights of 7th & 8th of November 2011. Please advise a strategy to use for this time period. I am willing to pay upto 225$ for a night. Thanks
thereuare Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is Times Square the only zone you're willing to accept? We can suggest a strategy for you to follow, but these are busy dates in NYC and i suspect that $200 will likely fall short for a 4* hotel in Midtown for these nites, but at least by adding other zones you give more hotels the opportunity to accept your bid. As well, if you haven't seen it, i'd give this thread a read: Hotels Near Times Square.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. So check in would be 11/07/11 for a total of 3nights.Would appreciate your helpThanks
thereuare Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 I had increased my bid upto 280$ for a 4 star in mid town and times square theatre district but it was rejected. There is no PRICELINE zone "midtown", can you please clarify if you had bid MTE, MTW or a combination of various midtown zones? (if so, which ones??)So check in would be 11/07/11 for a total of 3nights.As posted your original date was 11/7... are your dates now 11/7-11/10... or are you actually checking-in on 11/6?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Fuzzy5 Posted October 14, 2011 Author Report Posted October 14, 2011 I require the hotels for the following nights. 11/7 , 11/8 , 11/9. I would prefer to stay in MTW or Times Square Theatre District at a 4 star hotel. Willing to pay upto 275$ per night. Would appreciate your help in how to proceed forward. Thanks
Fuzzy5 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Report Posted October 18, 2011 I need some help pls. I want a 4* hotel in MTW or TS from 11/7 - 11/10. I have bid uptil $ 300 but have not succeeded.
thereuare Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 Why do you feel that MTW and TS are the only zones which would work for your needs... at the 4* level MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB all typically work well for the average user. Given your current rejections at $300, why not consider these alternate zones?Or if your plans require that you must be in TS or MTW (although with NYC being so compact and the zones so close together i can't imagine this being the case, especially with mass transit relatively inexpensive and readily available)... would you prefer to lower your required star rating, increase your budget even further, or wait it out and hope for lower prices in the next week or two? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Fuzzy5 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Report Posted October 18, 2011 I will probably have to add more zones as i cannot increase my budget. Can add MTE as well. Please advise what should be a reasonable price from 11/7 - 11/10 and what should be the strategy. Max that i am willing to pay is $250 but would be happy to get anything under $175 as others have got hotels at these rates in MTE.Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 Are ESB and/or CPS also acceptable... or is MTE the only new zone you're willing to add? Including more zones gives more hotels the chance to accept your bid price, which increases your chance of landing the best deal possible. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Fuzzy5 Posted October 23, 2011 Author Report Posted October 23, 2011 Had bid for 4* in MTE and MTW area. Started bid with 240$ and went all the way upto 295$.Got the W New York hotel 541 lexington avenue for 3 nights starting from 11/7/2011
thereuare Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 Congratulations on your success!Certainly not cheap, but this is an expensive time in the city, and your options were limited if only bidding MTE and MTW.Hope you're happy with the results and this will work for your plans. You're also near my often recommended Ess-A-Bagel (Third Ave at 51st St) which has one of the best bagels in the city, makes for a nice, and relatively inexpensive, breakfast among local NYers.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay. Fuzzy5 Posted October 23, 2011 Author Report Posted October 23, 2011 Yea its expensive but on other sites its 500$ plus.. Even when i had added ESB , bid uptil 265 but was not succesful.Just wanted your opinion about the property. How is this hotel. I think the location is quite good.
thereuare Posted October 23, 2011 Report Posted October 23, 2011 Good location but rooms are on the smaller side.If you want another food recommendation, head south on Third Ave (about a mile, so a longish walk or a short subway ride) to Jackson Hole Wyoming (Third Ave at 35th St) for one of the best burgers in the city, imo... a very filling lunch or inexpensive dinner.I don't talk about Blockheads Burritos too much on the board (b/w 33rd and 34th St on Third Ave) but if you walk by and they have margarita special going on it's worth a stop. There food is 'decent enough' for the price, but a bit too salty for my taste. However, sometimes (seasonally) they have margaritas for $3-$5 at which point it's worth a stop for some drinks, chips and salsa.
