Mapi Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 Hello, Im new to this forum and to the PRICELINE website too.Me and my girlfriend are trying to book a hotel for 5 nights in Manhattan NYC between 11/11-16/11, my budget is around 190-200$ per night, and the hotel location is important to us too. We're Trying to find 4*(MAX) - 3.5* (MIN) hotel, and it has to be close enough to any subway station that can take us to the main city attractions\hot spots.can anyone suggest us any strategy for a successful bidding? Thanks alot :)
AaronJB Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)A few notes: There is no way to guarantee being right near a subway station when using PRICELINE; when using HOTWIRE you can try to make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing (not guaranteed) and try to spot a hotel with a location you feel would be optimal. There are a couple of star levels/areas on PRICELINE in Midtown (such as 3.5* MTE), where some properties are known to be rather "out of the way".4* may be tough to get under $200, but it would look - based on regular rates and depending on zone - that 3.5* would be possible towards the upper end of your desired budget range. Please let us know which zones would be of interest.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Please start by reading your messages. At the 4* level in the 'typical' zones (MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB) all the 'known' 4* hotels are well located and convenient to the subway. However, as noted above, a 4* hotel is likely outside of your budget. At the 3.5* level things get a little trickier as some of the 3.5* are not as well located, or as nice, as others... would a 15 minute walk to the subway be acceptable? What about a very small room (even by NYC standards, where rooms are already small to begin with)Let us know your thoughts on the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Mapi Posted October 13, 2011 Author Report Posted October 13, 2011 thank you for your quick answers! :) we thought about the 'typical' zones you have mentioned (MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB) and a short walk to the subway is acceptable too (10-15 min walk), but preffer not. i saw on the winning board some winning bids around 190-210$ on 4* hotels in the city center.weve undersood theat the subway is accessible from other zones that are not so far from the center, so we can also add more zones (like the UES and UWS) but still bid on 4* hotels. about the room size, its ok if it will be small, but not that much, however the hygiene in the hotel is very important.
thereuare Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 ...a short walk to the subway is acceptable too (10-15 min walk), but preffer not.Does this mean at the 3.5* level we should include a zone such as MTE, where some of the hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, in a bidding strategy or not?i saw on the winning board some winning bids around 190-210$ on 4* hotels in the city center.Rates are date specific so you might not be able to replicate another user's win if rates for your own dates are higher then when the other user won. There are 4* wins on the board for Jan/Feb in the $125 range, but that is not realistic for your stay in November, which is a peak season (vs. Jan/Feb which is low season). Were the wins you're referencing for $190-$210 for your same dates?weve undersood theat the subway is accessible from other zones that are not so far from the center, so we can also add more zones (like the UES and UWS) but still bid on 4* hotels. There are no 4* hotels in the UES so that's not really an option, although UWS is. If you let us know which zone(s) you're willing to accept we'll include them in a bidding strategy. Downtown is often (but not always) one of the least expensive zones, so you should consider that zone if trying to stay within budget for a 4* hotel. It's not as convenient as staying in midtown, but for the right price, can be worth the trade-off.about the room size, its ok if it will be small, but not that much...Again, this doesn't tell us if we should be including zones with a notoriously small room in the bidding strategy or not.Let us know your thoughts on the above and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Mapi Posted October 13, 2011 Author Report Posted October 13, 2011 Hi again, the zones we interst in are- CPS, MTW, TS, MSG, ESB, MTE (even if the hotel rooms are small).about your question- "the wins you're referencing for $190-$210 for your same dates?" - the answer is yes.we thought about it again, and 4* hotel is very important to us, and we can increase the budget towards 215$.Thank you!
thereuare Posted October 14, 2011 Report Posted October 14, 2011 There are no 4* hotels in the MSG zone so we won't include that in your bidding. At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. Mapi Posted October 15, 2011 Author Report Posted October 15, 2011 I tried it all, all unsuccesful bids.:)maybe we should change the star rate to 3.5, but we must be very accessible to any subway station (so- without including the MTE zone).any other suggestions?Thank you!
thereuare Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Assuming you now want to include MSG back into the mix, while excluding MTE, i would try as follows:At the 3.5* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. Mapi Posted October 16, 2011 Author Report Posted October 16, 2011 nothing work to me...bad luck or something :)
AaronJB Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Sorry to hear that your bids weren't accepted. There is a 3.5* in Chelsea-MSG on HOTWIRE for $216; this could be a possible match for the Doubletree Chelsea or Ramada Plaza New Yorker; these were last reported as 3*'s on PRICELINE, though.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
