Priceline Hotel: Copley Square 10/15-10/16 3 1/2 to 4 stars

Any strategies or experience in this area appreciated. The Priceline (name your own price) guarantee is for a "standard room". Do most hotels let you specify a double bed room?

PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed/double occupancy; two beds can be requested once the reservation is confirmed, but the hotel can say no or charge more. In some areas (such as resort areas in FL), requesting two beds is relatively easy. In some major cities, however, it's definitely more of a risk, especially if it's a busy period. HOTWIRE is a better choice in this case, as you are ensured some sort of bedding for the amount of people in the party; if more than three are indicated, you should get some form of bedding for the entire party (commonly 2 beds, but could be 1 + sofabed or other combo.

Let us know if you have any luck getting this room. It looks like all the hotels are super expensive for this weekend in Boston, not sure why though. Usually I can get a 2.5-3 star room for $100-$150.
