mssp Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Hello! I've been reading the posts and have tried to bid on PL with no luck and I'm hoping to get some advice. This is what I need:7/9-7/12 (Sat-Tue)4*1st choice: MTE2nd choice: UM-CPSMaximum bid $140.2 roomsI'm familiar with the re-bidding strategy and I've been trying to find a hotel since Sunday having each person in our party bid. So far I haven't been as successful as most people here. Is it hard to find a hotel for these dates? Should I raise my maximum bid? I'm not willing to settle for a 3* just yet, or should I at this point? Thanks!
thereuare Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is there a reason you're avoiding the MTW zone?I would consider adding that zone and/or raising your bid... obviously your maximum bid is too low based upon current rates. If you let us know which of the two (or both) you'd like to do we can suggest a strategy for you to follow. mssp Posted June 13, 2005 Author Report Posted June 13, 2005 Yes - We're avoiding the Times Square area because it gets quite crowded there from my experience. Our group is slightly on a budget so I figure we'd be willing to go up to $150 and possibly $160 if we have to. If that doesn't work, we'll try 3*.
thereuare Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 ... and what is the maximum bid you have already made? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thereuare Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 This is how i would bid:Select 4* MTE...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and please keep us updated as to your progress. mssp Posted June 15, 2005 Author Report Posted June 15, 2005 No luck so far, although I've only gone up to $155 instead of $160. My friends decided that $150 would be their max, but I thought they wouldn't mind the extra $5 :) . I'm starting to wonder if the bids are too low and maybe we don't have as much time to bid as we thought. We have about 3 weeks left and looking at past postings here, it seems like people got good rates on or around these dates back in May or early June. Do you think we still have some time? Also, should we consider splitting the bid for a 3-night stay? I'm a little hesitant about it since it's such a short amount of time. Thanks again!
thereuare Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Do you have a back-up reservation anywhere? What will you do if unsuccessful with Priceline? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
mssp Posted June 16, 2005 Author Report Posted June 16, 2005 We don't exactly have a back-up reservation booked yet, but we have ones in mind. But we're still hoping to get a hotel by moving down to a 3* or adding MTW as a zone. We haven't tried these yet.
thereuare Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 So let us know when you'd like to make changes (price, star quality, split the bid, etc) and we'll suggest a strategy for whatever you'd like. You should book a cancellable back-up... often we see fallback plans suddenly disappear or go up in price, and the user is ultimately left scrambling to get something. mssp Posted June 16, 2005 Author Report Posted June 16, 2005 I've discussed it over with my group and we're willing to add MTW as another zone. If that doesn't work we'll go down to 3*, but I would like to try it first without MTW. We're still staying with our maximum bid of $150.
thereuare Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 So re-use the strategy above, but lower each bid by $10 (so you eventually get to $150 instead of $160).Once that fails report back and we'll update to include the MTW zone. mssp Posted June 17, 2005 Author Report Posted June 17, 2005 Finally had to give in and raise our limit. This is what we got:4*$1707/9-7/12 (Sat-Tue)Intercontinental The Barclay2 roomsI'm pretty happy with what we got. Thanks for your help thereuare! Is this hotel by the Ess-a-bagel place I keep hearing about? :)
thereuare Posted June 18, 2005 Report Posted June 18, 2005 Can you please add your bidding history (or more specfically, the highest rejected bid in this zone immediately before this acceptance).Thank you. mssp Posted June 18, 2005 Author Report Posted June 18, 2005 I basically followed your bidding suggestion by starting with the individual zones at $150 - 160 - 165. After those didn't work, I bid MTE and UM-CPS together at $170 as my first bid and got accepted.
