hink10 Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 I am planning a trip to Chicago from Dec 12 to the 16th. I found a 3 star hotel on Hotwire in the Magnificent Mile Area - Streeterville area. It's amenities list fitness center, business center and high speed internet. The price is $57 recommended by 95% of Hotwire reviews (500+). Could it be the Residence Inn? Seems to fit the profile. The price is awesome, I am going to shows at the Riviera, the Vic and the Civic Opera House that week. It's 5-6 miles from the Riv (4750 N Broadway). What would be your best guess? My only real issue is that I drive an Excursion and it's very tight in parking ramps although I've generally managed in most parking ramps, it's about 79" at it's high point. Not worried about taking a taxi to the venues. Thanks,Steve
AaronJB Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 In terms of the Vic, you could take the Red Line "L" - the Vic (which I do think is a nice venue) is right around the corner from the Belmont Red Line stop, and there's a lot of restaurants and shops nearby that you could browse around if you get there early. The Riv you could take the Red Line to as well, although there's not as much around as there is near the Vic and you may want to time it so you get to the concert near the start time. There is also an "L" station right near the Riv; if you are going to be at the Riv late, you may want to take a taxi back if one is passing by. If it's very cold out you may want to take a taxi back in both instances rather than waiting for public transit later (and colder) at night, but I will say the area around the Vic is worth looking around if you get there early. There is a tremendous used music store - Reckless Records - just South of the corner of Belmont and Broadway, on Broadway (http://www.reckless.com/visit.php) That's a pretty easy walk from the Vic and the Belmont "L" stop. There's also local institution Ann Sather right nearby (http://www.annsather.com/).The amenity set with this particular HOTWIRE listing has been seen with the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza, Inn of Chicago, Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn Express Cass, as well a slight possibility of the River Hotel. Unfortunately, there is no tripadvisor rating, which would help narrow down the possibilities. The high HOTWIRE ratings on the detail page for the listing in the various categories would make me lean towards the HGI or Holiday Inn, but those ratings are not always a reliable indicator, so do be prepared for any of the five possibilities.Given the $58 3* HOTWIRE listing for Mag Mile-Streeterville, you could also consider trying to bid for 3* River North-NMA on PRICELINE. You could start at $45 and work up by $3's; if you get to $57 and it's still not accepted, you could consider the HOTWIRE listing. hink10 Posted March 21, 2012 Author Report Posted March 21, 2012 I ended up getting a room via Priceline at the Four Points By Sheraton Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile for $55/night (in October). Very pleased, 1st room had a few problems, they upgraded me and all was good. It was a 5 day stay.
