stomata Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Hi guys.Newbie here and it's my first time being in NYC.I am planning a trip with my girlfriend from 10/27 to 10/31. While we got some cheap airfare deals from AA. (320 tax included from LAX to JFK).We were bidding on hotel in NYC. I personally tried to find a 4* hotel since my friends told me under 4* hotels might be dirty in NYC. (please advice if this is not true)We were trying to get something under 200 per night tax included. Based on the winning history and the length/time of our stay, I think it will be possible? (please advice if this is naive...)We've tried:Area:Chelsea, CPS, SOHO, Empire State Building, Hell's kitchen, MTE, MTW, TS, UWSPrice: 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 170Again, since this is my first time being in NYC. I know nothing about NYC, including the distance from hotel to subway station and also how to get to the hotel from JFK. So please advice anything I should know.thank you guys
thereuare Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Based upon current rates, $200 all-in (which equates to ~$165/nite bid price) for a 4* for these dates is a bit of a stretch... at the moment it would likely take at least $200+ bid price to be successful for a 4* hotel. We'll look at some of your options, but to help us find something to meet your needs, how flexible is your budget and is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. stomata Posted October 11, 2011 Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 I guess 1 question I have is that if 3.5 stars hotel are really that bad? Will they be like... dirty? noisy?if not then I might opt for 3.5*and I am wondering if I can get a better deal maybe a week before my planned stay?thanks
stomata Posted October 11, 2011 Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 just tried 175, 180, 185still no luck...
AaronJB Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 Opinions are going to vary from person-to-person and expectations/price, but many 3.5*'s are very nice. The only notes are that a couple of 3.5*'s in MTE are a bit far East in MTE and the 3.5* in CPS does have the Hudson as a possibility, and that property has very, very small rooms (about 130sq ft or so.)Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
stomata Posted October 12, 2011 Author Report Posted October 12, 2011 thanks for your reply. So if I choose 3.5* and avoid CPS and MTE area. Do you think I will be able to win a room within my budget?
thereuare Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 Based upon current rates i think a 4* can be had for ~$225 bid price... a 3.5* for ~$200-$210 (again, bid price)... you can certainly try lower levels first, and any strategy we suggest will first try at lower levels, but my guess is that $165 will likely fall just a bit short. Also, you may be able to save a bit by SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID... saying at one hotel for the first nite of your stay, then at a different property for the remaining 3 nites, but don't know if that is an option for you or not... you can save some money by doing, but then you also have the inconvenience (although it's not awful) to change hotels mid-stay.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. stomata Posted October 13, 2011 Author Report Posted October 13, 2011 thanks for all of your advices.Just now I won $170 per night for 4 nights (10/27 - 10/31) at Mondrian Soho.a 4* hotel regular rate of 449 per night, I think I scored a pretty good deal.thanks again!
thereuare Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 Congratulations on your success! An EXCELLENT deal for these dates... well under half off! (and a rate obviously just released since your previous bid at $170 in this zone just the other day was rejected)Thank you for sharing your win with the board and helping us add this property to the Priceline Hotel List. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
