dannon Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Hi, I tried for a 3 * hotel in the Willowbrook-Burr Ridge area and bid upto $57 .Started with $45,had 2 free rebid zones, so bid again upto $57 - was rejected. No counter offers .Also, no other areas are acceptable except Willowbrook-Burr Ridge. What price do I bid up to ? Also, not sure what a 2.5* hotel in this region would be. I certainly prefer a 3 * though. Planning to bid upto $80 for each night. Thanks. And as always ,will be bidding from the PRICELINE link here.
AaronJB Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Unfortunately, there have not been too many reports of wins in this zone, as the more hotel-heavy Oakbrook-Downers Grove zone nearby is more commonly seen. At the 3* level I'd suggest heading North by $5's - $62, $67, $72, etc.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
dannon Posted October 4, 2011 Author Report Posted October 4, 2011 Thanks AaronJB for the reply. There are not many hotels in the Burr Ridge area even on the regular PL site. I checked the distance between Burr Ridge and Oakbrook-Downers Grove and also Boingbrook-Romeoville- b'cos both seemed equidistant from Burr Ridge on the map. And it is almost same for both- about 10-11 miles. So, which of the two is better - Oakbrook or Romeoville - as in the actual area - safety/neighborhood/quality? And also, which one is is the faster route and has lesser traffic? And if both are the same , I would prefer the hotel area that is closer to restaurants .Will be bidding through the PRICELINE link link from here as usual. Thanks!! :)
lindabobhat Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 OP, Oakbrook/Downers Grove is a much better option. A more upscale suburban area with 2 nice malls and a plethora of restaurants. A lot more hotels to choose from, too. IMO, you are likely to get a better price in the Oakbrook/Downers Grove zone as well. And it's a straight shot south on Rt. 83 to get to Burr Ridge.
AaronJB Posted October 5, 2011 Report Posted October 5, 2011 As noted above, the Oakbrook/Downers Grove is a very nice area with more to do, and the increased amount of hotels often (at least usually) leads to better discounts due to competition. I'd suggest starting at $37 for a 3* (if you would like to continue to bid for the 3* level) and working higher by $5's.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
dannon Posted October 5, 2011 Author Report Posted October 5, 2011 Thanks Linda and Aaron for the responses. Yes, I have decided to stay in the Oakbrook area. I tried bidding using the PRICELINE link here upto $120/night for the Burr Ridge area for a 3* hotel and was rejected. All the hotel websites are also sold out . I called the hotels - There is a convention or some event in that area on those dates- that's why they are all sold out. Will start with a 4* for Oakbrook , if not then a 3.5* or 3* is also fine. I will post those bids. Thanks!

dannon Posted October 11, 2011 Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 Hi, I bid for a 3.5* hotel in the Oakbrook-Downers Grove area. Initially,I wanted the Willowbrook area but it was sold out and I got all rejections on PL. I had plenty of rebids for this zone -so started at $45 and went incrementally and was accepted at Marriott Suites Downers Grove. Here are the details :Offer Price: $67.00Rooms: 1Nights: 2 + Add nights for the same rate!Room Subtotal: $134.00Taxes & Fees: $26.23Total Charged to Card: $160.23The hotel rate for the weekend was $105 and weekday rate was $210. So, I got a good deal. As always ,used the PRICELINE link from here. The hotel is an old hotel [built in 1989,renovated in 2005], was pretty decent. For $65 ,it was great . But certainly I would not pay $210 for a room there. Much better choices out there for that price. Thanks. :)
AaronJB Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Sweet deal and glad to hear that the stay went okay.
