mPasCa Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 I just bid up to $220 for NYC area 4* hotels from Thursday, 10/13, thru Monday, 10/17. Last bid included MTE, MTW, Empire State, Chelsea, CPS. A quick question: I'd prefer to stay in midtown, but given the current protests, any idea if I could get a deal downtown? The "best deal" indicator is on Brooklyn right now, so it doesn't seem like they are budging in downtown.Another option, given business travelers: I could split my bid over two periods. First, try for a weekend deal 10/14-10/17, and then pay a bit more for Thursday night. Finally---are my sights just too high? Should I really be willing to go up to $250+?Thanks for any advice or encouragement.
thereuare Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 As your finding rates are very high for these dates, but i do think that either SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and/or including downtown will improve your chances.I'll also toss out the idea that HOTWIRE has what appears to be the W Hoboken for $165/nite for your complete stay (as well as some sub-set of your dates, but not all sub-sets) which is fairly new, gets great views, has an awesome view of the city, and a 5 minute walk to the PATH train (which will have you in midtown in ~15 minutes). You do lose some of the 'vibe' and 'buzz' of NYC, but it may be something to consider for ~$100/nite savings. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. mPasCa Posted October 11, 2011 Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 So, a small success: $130 for MTW on 10/13-10/14, Sheraton NY Hotel and Towers. Claims to be 4*, but IMO Sheratons are rarely above 3.5*. Still, a great location for a good price. Final bid included CPS, MTE, and Empire State. Also, I tried to add a night at this price, with no luck. I'll post any other successes in this forum.BTW, thank you for the Hoboken recommendation, thereuare. I hadn't thought about going "off-island," so I'll keep this in mind. I'll start another thread for my success or failure with the weekend dates.-m
thereuare Posted October 11, 2011 Report Posted October 11, 2011 Congratulations on your (partial) success!Although you may not be overjoyed with the hotel received, this is a very nice deal for a mid-week nite in NYC, so at least you received a great value for this particular nite.To help with, or to report win(s) for, the remaining nites of your trip please start a NEW TOPIC.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy this leg of your stay.
