NYC 3.5* 11/10 to 11/14

Need help on bidding strategy, plus any suggestions for a 1st time visit to NY for 2 women travelling together.

Need room for 4 nights - 11/10 to 11/14. Would like to go no lower that 3.5* and would like MW or ME but am open to other areas.

Also like to do 1 day at Woodbury outlet, any tips and other suggestions are much appreciated.

Like to spend no more than $225/night.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

A 4* may be a stretch for these dates, but did you want to try that first up to your $225 limit OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay? (once we know we'll discuss some further zone options)

Is Woodbury going to be a day trip and returning to the city OR were you looking to head up that way and stay in the Woodbury Commons area overnite? Will you have a car, rental a car, or use public transportation to get to Woodbury?

I was just planning Woodbury for a day trip (taking that express bus). I'd like to get 3.5 or better and ideally less than $200 per night avg. I was thinking of splitting the big as according to Hotwire, it looks like the Thursday night 11/10 is very expensive. We're comfortable taking the subway for sightseeing so being near that is good. What should I start the bid at? We don't mind changing hotels for the first night. We arrive at LaGuardia at 4:30pm. Would it be good to stay in Brooklyn for 1 night and explore there first, then the nxt 3 nights in Manhattan?

Unless you have a reason to stay/visit Brooklyn i don't see the point of heading over there as there isn't really that much to explore and i'd sooner recommend spending your time in Manhattan... you're alread arriving late the first day, taking one day to go to Woodbury... better to spend your time in the city, imo.

Few things to note when bidding 3.5*... in the MTE zone some of the hotels can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway, would this be acceptable? As well, is there a reason you're avoiding Chelsea, ESB, MSG and/or TS, as these zones are also frequently bid at the 3.5* level. CPS is sometimes bid too, but this zone contains the Hudson Hotel, which while well located, has notoriously small rooms, so if you're open to other zones you'll need to decide if this would be acceptable for your needs or not.

Based upon the above let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

We're planning to go to the outlet mall in Woodbury for some power shopping. We will skip Brooklyn then. I would really rather get a 4* if possible and only 3.5* if can't get anything else. I am definitely willing to add other locations as being close to transit is essential. What do you think about splitting the bid at 11/10 (Thursday) seems much higher than the rest? Ideally I'd like to get 4* for the rest 11/11/11/14 and will take 3.5* for the first night to keep costs down. Or should I just forget the splitting?

Have been using PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links here to search so far.

You could try bidding first for a 4* hotel for 11/11-11/14, but at rates i'm seeing at the moment, i think a 4* hotel at ~$200/nite would be a bit of a reach... although i am seeing a 3.5* on HOTWIRE for your complete stay for $209/nite (which i'm guessing is either the New Yorker Ramada Plaza or the Doubletree Chelsea... the New Yorker is only 3* rated on PRICELINE, but has received pretty good reviews since their makeover 2-3 years ago and is well located)

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed.

If trying to bid PRICELINE for a 4* hotel, are MTE, MTW, TS, CPS and ESB all accepable?

At the 3.5* are Chelsea, ESB, MSG, MTW and TS all accepable? What are your thoughts regarding the MTE zone (up to 15 minute walk to the subway) and CPS zone (potentially very small room)?

I'm open to all those locations. I'm not crazy about the MTE 3.5 with the 15 min walk to the subway. Am I correct in that the 11 /10 Thursday night is more expensive? I don't mind splitting the big and trying 4* on the rest 11/14. Is this not a good idea?

I am seeing retail rates slightly higher for Thursday nite, but i'm also seeing a 4* hotel in the MTE zone on HOTWIRE for the solo Thursday nite at $223/nite, which is cheaper than any 4* hotel offered for the remaining nites of your stay (although the amenities of this 4* hotel are very common, so it's unknown if this 4* HOTWIRE property would actually be 3.5* rated on PRICELINE).

What would be more important to you... staying at a higher rated hotel (4*) for at least part of your stay and then needing to change properties OR staying at a 3.5* property and not having to change mid-stay? (but my initial thoughts is that a 4* for 11/11-11/14 may still be a bit of a reach)

Once I got to $210 bid, they offered me $260/night. I kept bidding up and got at $224, Affinia Dumont 4*. Tried to add the 11/10 but was rejected as they wanted $310 for that night.

I still need to get 11/10 so should I just stick to the same bid strategy as outlined?
