Priceline Hotel: NYC, 11/4-11/7

I am going to NYC 11/4-11/7 (during the NYC marathon) and while I have a backup hotel (for just in case), I would like to bid on a cheaper hotel. I have used Priceline numerous times, but am JUST trying to learn how to use re-bidding. I would like any 3 star+ in any area of Manhattan. Any ideas on where to start price wise and date wise?

We will stay in any of the Priceline MANHATTAN zones: Central Park South, Chelsea Area, Downtown FInancial/Soho, Empire State Building Area, Hell's Kitchen, Madison Sq Garden, Midtown East, Midtown West, Queensborough Bridge, Times Square, Upper East Side, Upper West Side (from Central Park all the way south to the Financial District). We (2 of us, sharing a bed) are booked to stay at the Club Quarters Hotel (3*) in the Financial District and are paying $235 (plus taxes). I would really like to get a 3* for $170 a night (plus taxes), but unsure if this is unrealistic being it is the marathon weekend.

Can you provide me with a plan for bidding as I am unsure (but LEARNING) how to do the re-bid process.
