Ill be in Chicago for a conference on 10/20 to 10/24. I was offered a room at the Westin where the conference is being held for $260/night which is too steep.

Looking to spend $100-120 but as high as $150 for a real 4*. Just tried priceline at $100-110 for 4 and 3.5 stars and had my bid rejected. Would appreciate any help.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Please start by reading your messages.

Your post indicates that you're looking for a 4* hotel... but your bidding included both 3.5* and 4* hotels. Exactly what is it that you're looking for from this stay (in terms of star rating), and if you're seeking a 4* hotel, are you willing to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5*?

Additionally, is the conference being held at the Westin (if so, which location?) and would you need to be close to the conference/main conference hotel?

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

The conference is at the Westin on North Mich Ave.

Im really looking for a spot close to there and preferably at a 4* if have pay more than >$130.

So to confirm.. did you want to first try for a 3.5* or high up to $130, then if rejected continue bidding only for a 4* up to $150... OR do you prefer to first try for a 4* hotel up to your $150 limit?

Please confirm your goal for this stay and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

I guess I'd like to try for a 4* up to $150 first. Will i get more luck closer to 10/20 or is it pretty random? I just saw a hotwire NMA hotel at 197 this morning.

Nobody can say if prices will come down, or continue higher, between now and your stay, but for a further discussion see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* NMA-River North...

Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $150

Any questions feel free to ask.

Are these the zones:

Midway

Midway North

Hyde Park

Skokie

Franklin Park?

Lincoln Park?

Sorry for such a newb question but the priceline dropdown menu lumps all of the 4* chicago downtown hotels together.

It appears you're using the 'retail' side of PRICELINE to determine your re-bid zones, and that is NOT what you want to do. Try this:

1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'Chicago' and your dates, and click "GO".

2) List each zone that is offered in this region.

3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.

4) post your findings and we'll take it from there

If you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further.
