HammerTx Posted October 1, 2011 Report Posted October 1, 2011 I am fairly new to Hotwire and Priceline. We have used each site twice in maybe the last 5 years. We are now planning a tip to Manhattan, NY but not until next Sept. 5-8 2012. Yesterday out of curiosity I started looking at hotels on Hotwire. We will be in the city a Wed. thru Sat. and need two rooms. I put in the furthest dates I could (Aug. 22-25, 2012) and low and behold a 4* hotel came up in MTC for $130!!!!!! I am thinking this is GREAT, but is it too good to be true? The icons were Restaurant, Non-smoking, High-Speed Internet and Fitness. Does anyone have an idea what hotel this might be? Am I in a good place booking almost a year early? Our plans are set and I have no problem booking/paying way ahead. I had expected to pay around $200 per night. The $130 seems like a dream come true, but I don
thereuare Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Summer is low season in NYC and $130/nite for a 4* hotel would certainly be within the realm of possibility. However, rates are date specific and often go up in the Fall, usually sometime around mid-September (sometimes a little earlier, sometimes a little later). So you're right on the cusp of when we typically see rates rise... there is a decent chance that you'll see a similar deal for your own trip, but also a chance that rates could be substantially higher (especially given date specific events which can effect hotel demand/prices, regardless of high/low season.Once rates for your actual dates become available, do a current HOTWIRE search and continue this thread and we'll try to assist with what is offered for your actual dates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding, searches and travel purchases. HammerTx Posted October 2, 2011 Author Report Posted October 2, 2011 Thanks so much for your advice and offer of assistance. May I ask you this...do you think any 4* hotel will be nice? I thought I read somewhere here on these boards not to go any lower than a 4* star value in Manhattan because the star values are a little inflated? We are not super picky, but want a good location and decent hotel.
thereuare Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 Most 4* should be quite nice, but everyone has different expectations... take some of the nicest of hotels and you'll find some reviews with complains... take some of the worst hotels and you'll see that some that find it perfectly acceptable. If price is your primary concern then stick with PRICELINE... if you're concerned about quality, location, etc then choose HOTWIRE where you can see reviews and ratings of previous guests, which should at least keep you out of trouble in terms of receiving one of the 'lesser quality' 4* hotels. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
