Priceline Hotel: Bidding Advice Request - 5* Las Vegas (Strip South) - 3/14/12-3/18/12

Got a lot of time for this one. Took one crack (using the links through above) that looked like this:

There are a total of 12 zones available to get a south strip 5*. I have plenty of time on this one, so just want to make sure I get the best possible price.

First question - am I bidding too early? I see from the win calendar (nice addition!) that there is one win for Trump for $85. Good score, so the deals may be there to be had.

Next question - I started at $70 (lowball) / night and using the zones to get up to $81. No bites yet.

It's a new day and I'm ready to pick up again. Should I still just bid up $1 each time until I get a nibble?

Thanks!

Sub-$100 will likely be tough for a 5* on the Strip.. you may be able to get 5* under $100 for the midweek nites, but when including the weekends your odds go down dramatically.

Quick update - took another run at my south strip - using the PRICELINE link of course - and ran it up to $103 (92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 100, 101, 102, 103).

If I decide to try to split, I would assume that I'm going to attempt 3/14 and 3/15 (Wed, Thurs) and 3/16 and 3/17 (Fri, Sat) as the other. Thoughts?

OK, few updates on this attempt.

As a reminder, I do have a cancel-able reservation at the IP for my dates. Cheap. Central. Total dive, but in the thick of things.

I found a special offer on another site that got me booked into a Resort Suite King room at Encore for $149/night for the Friday/Saturday portion of my stay. Also cancel-able in case I find something better, but not a bad deal overall.

First attempt with the split bid on priceline went as follows: Dates - 3/14 to 3/16, Bids - $66 (first bid that did not have the "unlikely to be accepted warning"), 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 77). No accepts or counters.

There is one 5-star on Hotwire now for $108/night, but appears to be Trump which isn't an option. Will keep at it.

Just want to close this thread out. Came to the realization that I'm not going to get quite the rate I'm looking for on this stay, so here's what I've ended up doing:

3/14-15 COMP @ Harrah's

3/16-17 $149 @ Encore (and already confirmed a 1BR suite upgrade) using a promo code

Not a huge fan of the Harrah's properties, but they keep sucking me back in with their Total Reward member promos.

As always, thanks for the advice as always! Clicking the HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links a few times each visit for ya!
