lackingsleep Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Hello All,I am a first time user attempting to save with this name your own price. My dates of interest are Oct. 19-22. I'm looking in the Las Vegas Vicinity North and North Condo Area. Interestingly when I just look at the LV Vicinity North Condo Area alone they give me the options at both 4* and 5* hotels? After reading some of the post here and elsewhere I was under the understanding that the only hotel in the Pricline LV Vicinity North Condo was the Trump Hotel which Priceline considers a 5* hotel. The reason why I bring this up is that the 4* understandibly has a lower nightly retail price rate and all likelyhood I assume I can get a lower bid accepted but now I'm worried as to exactly which hotel is the 4* hotel in this vicinity? Any help or advice muched appreciated. FYI the price different is substantial (avg nightly retail price for 5* is 360 vs. 120 for the 4*... hence the old saying if its too good to be true)Thanks in advance.
AaronJB Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)I would not give too much weight to the "average retail price" as shown during the bidding process.Unfortunately, the only property that has been reported in this zone is the Trump at the 5* level - there have not been any reports of which hotels participate in the bidding side of the service at the 4* level as of yet. What would be your desired budget per night, and are you only looking in this zone, or would the N/S strip zones also be acceptable?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
lackingsleep Posted September 29, 2011 Author Report Posted September 29, 2011 Well my visit is because of work related conference that will be held at Wynn Hotel. Unfortunately I decided to attend a bit later and missed a promotional rate they had for conference attendees. Now Wynn/Encore prices are well above 300 per night. So I decided to use the name your own price to see if I can find a hotel in the north strip area relatively near the Wynn hotel where the conference will be for a more afforadable price.I have searched both LV North strip vicinity and North strip vicinity condo and I wouldn't mind staying at the trump hotel but didn't want to pick the 4* in north strip vicinity condo (assuming a lower bid will be accepted) and after its accepted realize that it was for another less reputabile hotel since I guess technically Trump is considered a 5* hotel by priceline itself (when you search it through there regular search engine it names Trump as a 5* hotel).
Romelle Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Have you looked at the Calendar of Wins yet (center of this page)? If you select your dates and scroll down to Nevada - Priceline, you can get a little better idea of what bids might work for your dates, and what the results might be. While you are at it, take a peek at Hotwire too. If there is 4* bidding in that Condo - North area, presumably there really is a 4* to be won there. Are you thinking of bidding 4* or 5*? A common approach is to try the higher star level up to one's budget, and then go to work on the next lower one.Have you looked at the idea of free re-bidding yet? Las Vegas is a good area for doing it. Hotwire is kind of interesting. At the moment, for the North strip area it has 5* at $174, 4* at $114, and 3* at $38. Quite the range.Romelle
