ilanl Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Hi.Looking to identify a 2.5* hotwire hotel in LIC.Dates: 10.19-21.10. 73$ per nightAmeninties: Only Complimentary Breakfast...Recommended in 85 % of Hotwire customer reviewsIs that the Howard Johnson? Is going for a 2.5 star hotel in LIC a good strategy or can I end up stuck with a hotel far from the subway and from NYC (which are the most important things for me alongside the price)?
ilanl Posted September 29, 2011 Author Report Posted September 29, 2011 Another thing I see in LIC is a hotwire 3* hotel.Same dates, 103$ per night.Amenities: Breakfast, Fittness Center, Business Center and High Speed internet access. Can anyone help id this otel as it's not listed?
thereuare Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages.Dates: 10.19-21.10. 73$ per nightAre your dates Oct 19-21? Are you still seeing the 2.5* property when searching HOTWIRE as i'm not seeing this property when for your dates. If you're still seeing a hotel with only a Breakfast icon showing, are you searching for more than one room or for more than the default 2adults/0children?The hotel you receive could be anywhere in the zone. Given the size of this zone i would try to be 'reasonably sure' of the hotel you think you may receive to increase your chances of being near a subway station. While this area is changing (for the better) i'm still not a fan as it just doesn't feel very clean to me with all the dark brick buildings, graffiti on the walls, and the industrial businesses in the area. However, if you're budget is around the $100 mark, i'm not sure what other options you'll have for these dates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. ilanl Posted September 29, 2011 Author Report Posted September 29, 2011 Thanks for the quick reply. You're right. The 2.5* hotel is no longer appears in the search results. But what about the 3* hotel? I'm trying to id it and have to admit I'm confused. Pan American hotel is a 2.5* hotel in BB's lists. But if you check it on Hotwire or Tripadvisor it seems to upgrade itself to be 3*... I'm afraid I'll be stuck in this hotel and not on the much closer and prefferd 4 points or Holiday Inn. Not to mention that the difference in price is only 12$ from the retail price per night. Do you have any recent wins on the Pan American? Was it rated 3* or 2.5*?Another thing is the amenities: On the retail side of Hotwire it mentions: Shuttle, Fitness center, Restaurants, Laundry, High speed nternet. The hot rates page amenities description is: Complimentary breakfast, Fitness center, Business center, High speed internet. Can I be sure from these differences that it's not going to be the Pan American?Regarding the surroundings - I've stayed last year at the Ramada in LIC, and was very satisfiedm apart from the fact that the walk from the subway was a little long. I don't really mind the nighborhoud as I get out early and come back late.
thereuare Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Through a quick search of the board it appears that the Pan American was only reported to the board once and that was back in 2008 (here is the hotwire hotel thread for the purchase) so it's certainly possible that the amenities and/or star rating have changed since then... but we can't confirm any changes until it's reported to the board. Some hotels use multiple amenity combinations to describe their hotel, so it's possible that you're seeing one set of amenities in the 'opaque' side and one set of amenities on the 'retail' side, and therefore you can't exclude a given hotel based upon the two sides not matching. With the above noted, the amenities of the 3* match previous reports for the Holiday Inn Express Maspeth, but that property was last reported to the board at the 2.5* level... my guess is that this is the property you're seeing, upgraded since it was last reported. Of course, as per above, can't be certain, but that would be my best guess for this one. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. ilanl Posted September 29, 2011 Author Report Posted September 29, 2011 Is Holiday Inn L.I. City - Manhattan View an option acording to amenities list? (This is rated 3* not like the HI Maspeth that appears in Tripadvisor as 2.5*)Does the fact that Pan American hotel is the only 3* hotel that is being offered in Hotwire's retail tab matter?

ilanl Posted September 29, 2011 Author Report Posted September 29, 2011 Point taken.Did it and will do from now on..
AaronJB Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 Tripadvisor is not an indicator of star ratings, as star ratings can vary from service-to-service. My guess for the 3* would also be that the HI Express Maspeth has been upgraded to 3*.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
