kayzeesuns Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Hi guys I'm new to this and have never used priceline beforethis site is recommended by a friend so I decided to give it a try :) So this will be my first trip to NYC and I'll stay there between Oct 19-22I'm looking for a hotel that's cheap and relatively close to a subway station. I just need a place to sleep and perferrable clean.oh and since I have never been there before I have no clue/preference on which area to staymy activities will mostly be exploring the 3 biggest museums+seeing the major attractions during day time and hitting the clubs at night. Don't know if this info has any relevanceLooking forward to hear from you guys on how to bidthanks in advanceKZ
thereuare Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!'Cheap' is a relative term, let us know your expected budget for this stay and we'll then be able to discuss the pros/cons of various options and zones as well as what may be possible. Also, how do you consider 'relatively close to a subway'... although not ideal, would 15 minutes be acceptable? What type of star rating are the hotels you typically stay in?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. kayzeesuns Posted September 29, 2011 Author Report Posted September 29, 2011 Hi thereuaremy budget per night is around $150, and the cheaper the better. If I can get a room for less than $100, it would be fantasticYes 15 mins of walk from a subway station is definitely acceptableI typically stay in Days Inn and Holiday Inn types of hotels (and much better ones if I go to Vegas :) but that doesn't really count)I understand this is New York and hotels are super expensive, so I can lower my standard as long as it's cheap and convenientThanks!
thereuare Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 Not only is NYC expensive, but this time of year is very expensive, and under is not very common for the Fall months. If/when we do see rates this low, it's usually for a solo Sunday nite (the slowest nite of the week for hotels in this area) or weekend dates... not midweek nites, which is what your stay above is.We also don't typically recommend the lower rated budget hotels in NYC as the quality can vary so much... you could find a 2.5* hotel that is a diamond in the rough... or you could land something which is less than desirable. In NYC it's usually recommended to stick with 3* or above, but unfortunately i'm doubtful that your budget will be enough for a hotel at this rating... it may not even be enough for a 2.5* property.Given the comments above, let us know if you want to stick with the $150 maximum bid and what star level you would like to try for first... we'll then confirm your zones at that star level and take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kayzeesuns Posted September 30, 2011 Author Report Posted September 30, 2011 yeah I would still stick to $150 max bid :) I browsed through some of the hotels, and you are right a lot of the 1* and 2* have gotten terrible reviews. At the same time, I did see some great 2* and 2.5* ones. So I guess I'll try 2* first
