My family is going to visit Chicago from Oct 2-6. And from my travel book I found 2 museums offers free admission days. But I checked the free museum day info on museum websites and it says "FREE general admission for Illinois residents only". It means ID/driver licence will be check on the gate? so visitors cannot get the free admission? Please advice. Thanks.

I haven't managed to wind up at the museums on a free day in years, unfortunately, but I have heard from friends/family that they do card. Your results may vary, but expect that they may ask for some sort of proof.
