walkermom Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 Hi - I've never used Priceline before so am a bit apprehensive. I'm going to be in NYC on Oct 14-16 participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, a two day 39 mile walk throughout Manhattan. I live in Northeast CT so I need a hotel for the Friday before the event and possibly Saturday of the event (you can campout at Randalls Island, but since I'm by myself would prefer a hotel). The sponsor hotel is the Sheraton Towers, but at $339 per night for two nights, I can't manage that. I don't need anything fancy and since it's just myself I only need single occupancy. Here's my question - Since I'll be by myself, I didn't know if any of the area's were better than others. I was thinking CPS or Midtown West. Also, I'm not sure of which star rating to choose. By the hotel listing I would think in the three star range? And what is an appropriate bid for this time of year? I would like to not spend more than $400 for the two nights. Thanks for your help!
AaronJB Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, NYC is quite expensive during the Fall/Winter. These dates do not look quite as bad as much of the remainder of the season, but are still very expensive - would you be looking to spend $200 "all-in" (with taxes/fees included) or $200 + taxes/fees? There are a number of very nice 3* properties throughout the city, but I would recommend not going below 3* if possible, as 2.5* properties can vary in quality and 2*'s can definitely vary in quality.Additionally, where does the walk start? Would you want to be reasonably near the starting line?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages and clicking this PRICELINE link, then reply to this thread along with answers to the questions above and we'll take it from there. In previous years the Walk has started and ended Downtown (at the Seaport), if this is still the case, there are better options then midtown... would you want to stay closer to the start/finish or be near the designated host hotel in order to be convenient for any pre/post event sponsored activities? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. rous291977 Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Ok, I just got a 4* hotwire hotel from 10/14-10/15 for $179/night. It's the Millenium Hilton downtown/soho, on HOTWIRE. It's a blind bid, however, but that's the hotel. Travis
