Hotwire Hotel: NYC 4* Soho

Hi I'm new to this whole process and using Hotwire to book hotels. I just wanted to start by thanking you guys for this forum. It really helped me understand the concept of using Hotwire/Priceline a little bit more.

I'm looking at a hotel on Hotwire - 4* in the Soho area for $200 for Sept 30th - Oct 2nd (2nights)

Ammenities included: Fitness, Business Centre, Laundry Service, High-Speed Internet

Which hotel do you think this is? And if I wanted to have two beds how likely is that to happen?

How come for a 3.5* in the Soho area is more expensive at $203 and the Ammenities only include High-Speed Internet? Which hotel is this one?

If I wait closer to the date will the prices drop?

Thanks again for your help. :)

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Hotels set their own rates based upon their own occupancy levels, so while a 4* hotel may be 'better' than a 3.5* property, if the 3.5* has two events taking place in their ballrooms and is a 'host' hotel for a conference, they may be close to capacity and raise their rates dramatically VS. a 4* hotel which may not have any functions for the weekend and no affiliation with the conference... this property may lower rates in an effort to drum up some business for their empty rooms. This is just one example of many possible scenarios, but i'll add that the difference between the above hotels is $3/nite so it's really not a factor... if you search Expedia, Orbitz, etc you'll find a similar situation where some of the higher priced 3.5* hotel are more expensive then the lower priced 4* properties.

All that is guaranteed by HOTWIRE is accommodations for the number of guests you include in your search, so you can 'force' separate sleeping arrangements in the room by searching for quad occupancy, but note that this only ensures accommodations for four, in which case the second 'bed' could be a pulllout sofabed, rollaway brought into the room, etc. You could call the hotel you receive after your purchase and request a room with two beds, but there is no assurance the hotel will be able, or willing, to accommodate your request. This is especially true in NYC where rooms are typically small and there are a very high percentage of rooms with only one bed; in fact, rooms with two beds are often considered upgraded accommodations at many properties and cost more.

As far as rates dropping between now and your stay, nobody can say, but you are within 10 days of check-in so i doubt underlying demand will change that much between now and then. For a further discussion on this subject see the related 'Bid Early or Close to Check-in' link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

For help with the properties above please click this HOTWIRE link let us know if you intend to book for double/quad occupancy and if the offers above still appear (and are within your budget as the price often goes up in NYC when searching for more than double occupancy)... then reply to this thread and we'll have a look at whatever it is you're considering (whether it be double/quad occupancy and/or the hotels above or something different)

Besides the World Hotel, i'll also add the Club Quarters World Trade as a possibility as it was recently reported as being upgraded to the 4* level and ha also been seen with this amenity set.
