macnerd Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Three stars, $59, one night (Sat, June 11), amenities: restaurant, pool, fitness center, business center...and the winner is the Doubletree Hotels GS Downers Grove. Hmmm... Think I'd rather have my usual 3.5 star Wyndham or Hyatt for $48 in Lisle, but those go away when school gets out. (We weary volleyball parents know the score by now. January through mid-May is Hotwire heaven in Lisle, but after May is a crapshoot! Good thing this is our last event for the year at the lovely, new Great Lakes Center! ...and my last year of club volleyball, thank goodness!)MacNerd

Cheesehead Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Too funny...it sounds like we're in the same boat....like the 5th time down this year.....have stayed at the Comfort Inn in Aurora which was really close to the GLC but booked via their website...before I was hooked on Priceline. First did the Wyndahm off of Hotwire for $47.00....Then got brave and booked via Priceline at the Wyndahm in Lisle for $35.00, Hyatt in Lisle for $38.00, did the Marriott Hickory Ridge in Lisle for $33.00. this time I think its graduation and the bidding was tough on Priceline and I started at $35.00 for Naperville/Lisle no luck, added Elmhurst $40.00 no luck, added North Arlington Heights for $45.00 no luck...finally added Downers Grove/Oak Brook and received the Doubletree as well...for $50.00. We are playing at North Downers Grove High...so this should work out well for us. We are playing in the 16 club division....maybe we'll bump into each other!
Cheesehead Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Oh and thereuare.....no suite icon that I could see.....I checked Hotwire....it was being offered at $47.00 - $48.00 for the past couple of days.....I of course.....didn't take advantage of it...thinking I could get the Wyndahm or Hyatt in Lisle for around $50.00 and instead got the Doubletree in Oakbrook....this used to be the Oakbrook Hyatt...not to be confused with the McDonalds Hyatt. I was scared that the 3* on Hotwire might have been the Prime Hotel and Suites...which does not get good reviews! They have announced a major renovation here as well!
thereuare Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 If you do a search for the above date (6/11) a 3* hotel appears with the four amenties above plus a Suite icon... but if neither of the two of you had a Suite icon on your purchase this may be a different property; guess we'll have to wait and see. macnerd Posted June 16, 2005 Author Report Posted June 16, 2005 No suite icon for us. It was a huge room with a table for six, a pull-out sofa bed for the baby amazon, and a huge king-size bed for the mama amazon and the daddy...well, he can't be an amazon because amazons are female! :) We had two TVs, a refrigerator, a small bar and sink, and a coffeemaker. Pretty nice! Had the marble in the bathroom I require now that I'm a Hotwire/Priceline snob! ;DCheesehead, you poor thing! You have two more years to go! My baby just started this whole volleyball thing when she was 16, so we have only had to travel for three years. (The CLOSEST place we play is Chicago, which is two hours away.) People say, "Oh, but your kid got a full-ride so you saved all that money!" Shoot, I could have built my own university for what I've spent! ;D (Well, not exactly, but I bet I could've put her through an in-state public university with all that money spent on fees, hotels, meals, airfare, tshirts...)Good thing she loves to play!La MacNerdPS: Yes, we have done the Marriott Hickory Ridge! They very nicely gave us a huge double room with two full baths. Not bad for forty bucks! We just love the Wyndham's exercise room and the Hyatt's beds in Lisle. (The late night pizza special at the Wyndham is pretty cool. It's 12 bucks or so for pizza and pop, and they bring it to your room on some swanky glass tray, and, of course, your pop is in a fancy glass.) I will cry buckets if they ever get rid of Hotwire and Priceline! :)
