taylorj Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 I need a hotel room for NYC 10/15-10/18 3* or up (2 1/2* might be okay). I'd like to stay anywhere in mid or upper Manhattan. I'd be happy with up to $150, but will go up to $200 if I have to.I've tried mte, mtw, Queensborough Bridge, ESB, MSG, UES, Times Square up to $150 with no success.
thereuare Posted September 14, 2011 Report Posted September 14, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please start by reading your messages and clicking this PRICELINE link... then reply to this thread indicating which zones, by PRICELINE name, you're willing to accept and we'll advise accordingly.NOTE: at the 3.5* and under level there are some hotels in MTE which can be up to a 15 minute walk to the subway and in the CPS the Hudson Hotel has notoriously small rooms... are either/both of these conditions acceptable? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. taylorj Posted September 14, 2011 Author Report Posted September 14, 2011 Anything in CPS, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS, or UES would be great. 3* or up and up to $150 (if not $200).I'm okay 15 min walk or small rooms. :)

taylorj Posted September 15, 2011 Author Report Posted September 15, 2011 I tried it up to $155 with no success. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Thank you for keeping us updated and please let us know if you are successful/have additional questions.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
taylorj Posted September 18, 2011 Author Report Posted September 18, 2011 I've tried up to $200 for 3* in CPS, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS, and UES for 10/15 - 10/18 without success. 1) How much higher should I go up to to get a 3*?2) What would be the price range if I were okay to go down to 2 1/2*?3) What would be the price range if I were okay to go down to 2*?
AaronJB Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 What would be your desired max budget at the 3* level before moving down to the 2.5* level? I'd suggest not trying for a 2* in the NYC area, as quality can vary quite significantly.Thakn you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
taylorj Posted September 19, 2011 Author Report Posted September 19, 2011 My max budget for 3* would be $200, but what I want to know is whether that's unreasonable of me.If it's unreasonable of me to go $200 on 3*, I'd go up to $200 on 2 1/2* as well.
thereuare Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 My max budget for 3* would be $200, but what I want to know is whether that's unreasonable of me.It's certainly not unreasonable, as $200 is a lot of money for a hotel room, but at the moment it's not quite enough... i'm guessing, but i'd think you may be $20-$40 from success for a 3* property in the zones above. If it's unreasonable of me to go $200 on 3*, I'd go up to $200 on 2 1/2* as well.Have you considered SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID? It appears (if this is an option i'll research further) that the Saturday nite is the more difficult nites of the three, but you could try winning at levels you have already bid for 10/16-10/18, then if successful, try to pick up the nite of 10/15 at a different property, or in a different zone (such as including Downtown), rates, etc.Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. taylorj Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 I booked W Hotel in midtown at $237 (including tax) on their website. I was getting a little tired of bidding on priceline, and wanted to just book something. Thanks, though!
wesleyarnold Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 I booked W Hotel in midtown at $237 (including tax) on their website. I was getting a little tired of bidding on priceline, and wanted to just book something. Thanks, though!Where were you able to find that deal, I know rates change frequently, but I looked there yesterday around midnight, again this AM, and just now at 4pm and I have not seen anything close to that by even 100 dollars.
taylorj Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 I booked it on the W Hotel website (Starwood hotels) on Sunday night. I initially saw it on Kayak. I checked it just now and looks like it's gone up.
AaronJB Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Thank you for closing the thread. Hope you enjoy your stay. Please use the site's Starwood links in the Support/Travel section to start your regular rate/direct purchases and searches.
