mllemeems Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 Hi Everyone,I have been skimming through the site and advice from everyone but I am not having any luck with my bidding. I am trying to bid on a hotel in NYC from 10/6-10/9. I have bid up to $200 in 3.5*s without any success. What is a realistic bid? Is it best to wait closer to the date? Thank you in advance for your help! Oh, and I have only tried Priceline.com I haven't tried Hotwire.com.
AaronJB Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Unfortunately, these are extremely busy dates in NYC within a very busy season. Which zones would be acceptable, and what bids (price/zone/star rating) have you made so far? Are you seeing any HOTWIRE listings of interest?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
mllemeems Posted September 19, 2011 Author Report Posted September 19, 2011 Thanks for the reply. Any area in Manhattan is good except for Madison Sqr. Garden. We will be going to the NBC Studios on Friday so anywhere around there. I haven't seen much of a difference btwn Hotwire and Priceline. I cannot believe how expensive hotels are!I have made bids on Priceline based on the "strategy" that was given on the site. I think i am just bidding way too low.
thereuare Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 Rates are date specific, so it's not always a good idea to simply follow a strategy for somebody else since it may not apply to your own stay... you could end up bidding too high, too low, or simply wasting bid opportunities.Exactly which zones, by PRICELINE name, have you bid (this makes it easier for us then telling us what you didn't bid)... for instance, have you bid and included Downtown in your previous attempts (which is in Manhattan, not exactly close to NBC Studios). If faced with lowering your star rating or raising your budget, or including MSG (not sure why you want to avoid this zone, i assume a property here you may not like), what would you next game plan be? At what point do you deviate from your current zone(s), maximum bid and star rating? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. mllemeems Posted September 20, 2011 Author Report Posted September 20, 2011 The zones that I have tried are as follows: 2,3,5,6,9,10,13,14,15.Actually I was told that MSG area wasn't that good. Pardon my lack of NYC knowledge it has been a long time since I have been there.I am really open to staying anywhere in the city. I don't want to stay in NJ, Brooklen, Bronx, Queens, etc...If I lower my star rating I feel like I would be stuck with a Holiday Inn or Ramada Inn? Is that correct? $200 Max Bid and 3.5* (I would like to stay in a Sheraton, Westin, Marriot, or Hyatt type hotel).Next game plan would be to stay at a friends place for a night and stay at a hotel for the remainder.
thereuare Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 The zones that I have tried are as follows: 2,3,5,6,9,10,13,14,15.Please list the zone names (and not the numbers) as the order will change as PRICELINE adds new zones or re-names the current zones.$200 Max Bid and 3.5*HOTWIRE is currently offering a 3.5* property Downtown for $202/nite with:Fitness, Business, Laundry, Internet... this matches previous reports for the World Center Hotel (90% recommended by previous HOTWIRE guests and a 4.0/5.0 on Tripadvisor), would this work for your needs? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and/or how it goes or if we can be of further help. mllemeems Posted September 27, 2011 Author Report Posted September 27, 2011 Thanks! Yes, this should work...is it 202 before taxes? I just looked on priceline and it looks like the median prices have gone down quite a bit. Have you seen any new trends? (sorry for the delayed reply flu knocked me out)
thereuare Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 I just looked on priceline...Please use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board each time you access the respective site(s). The average retail rate shown by PRICELINE is often incorrect and not very meaningful in your bidding strategy. The 3.5* Downtown HOTWIRE property above is currently priced at $207 and now shows Fitness, Internet, Laundry... my best guess for this one is the Club Quarters Downtown. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.PS- hope you're feeling better Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

AaronJB Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Congrats on your success. :)Awesome deal for this Grand Hyatt property! Hope you are looking forward to your stay.Thank you for sharing your win and for using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.Enjoy your stay.
