Bazel Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 We are traveling to Las Vegas for a wedding. The wedding is being held at Caesars Palace but room rates there are ridiculous. On Hotwire it only appears the Trump Intl is currently being offered in the 5* category ($174) and wasn't interested in that property. So I started this bid attempt with hopes of 5* in the North zone. Here is the list of my unsuccessful bidding attempts for a 5* which at the end I added in the South zone too as the 5's are on the north end of the south zone. As an aside, room rates at these hotels for our pereiod have been averaging $300+ per night so I know I was low - but heck you never know.1. North 5* $992. Add Convention Center $1173. Add Airport $1384. Add Fremont $1495. Add Henderson $1546. Add Rast $1677. Add West $1778. Add South $1279. Add Nellis $13810. Add Boulder $14611. Add NW Vegas $156I think I may have had a couple other re-bid zones but I wasn't 100% certain in the area and if a "resort" might cause me to win something I didn't want. Started over with 4* 1. North $892. Add East $993. Add West $119 .. Win Palms with 28% savings as lowest avg room rate for our stay is $167Here again, was uncertain a couple of the rebid zones that may have worked when targeting a 4* North zone. Called the Palms to add room requests non smoking and one room with double beds if possible. Agent was really nice on the phone, hoping for good karma. In the end I could have (should have) waited a few weeks and tried again, but with the wedding being the reason for us going we needed to firm up our plans. Based on all the HOURS I have spent checking rates by hotel, booking engine, signing up for emails etc - I am happy with this! And yes, I used the PRICELINE link from this site! Thanks, BzETA: I guess it would be better to clarify my 4* re-bid apprehension. For whatever reason I was afraid to rebid with Henderson - not sure why and Summerlin says resorts so I didn't want that in the mix. As well there were no reports on Boudler, Mount Charleston, NW Vegas and Nellis on the pinned list and didn't want to risk ending up somewhere I really didn't want to be.
thereuare Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 Congratulations on your success! While not the ideal hotel for this trip, glad to see you're pleased with the deal you received given these busy dates. Few comments:As per the comments at the top of the hotel lists, you don't want to use the lists to determine your re-bid zones. See this thread, Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, which is the only method you should use to determine your re-bid zones. If you read the previous thread and are confused just post back and we'll break it down further for you.In the future feel free to ask the board for help and we'll answer any question you have (ie- regarding re-bid zones, et. al) as well as provide a suggested bidding strategy for you to follow... with a month to go before your stay, waiting an extra day to get some help may have proved to be worthwhile. If you won't have a car, you could walk from the Palms to the Rio which then provides a shuttle to Caesars, Paris and a few other strip locations.Thank you for sharing your win and using the PRICELINE links on the board to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay and have fun at the wedding. Bazel Posted September 19, 2011 Author Report Posted September 19, 2011 Thanks for the suggestions. While I have pulled up the pinned list, I have "missed" the rebid information and never knew about checking the zones. This will come in handy in the future. As well, I will certainly seek advice in the future - I've been uncertain as to what to ask for and what I just needed to wing it on!In the end - we are good with the outcome and price!
