albs_99 Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 I have been reading this forum religiously and have also tried unsuccessfully to win a bid for NYC for 28 November 2011 - 6 December 2011 for a 4* hotel. I have been using the betterbidding PRICELINE link.I would like to spend around $150-180 a night but if necessary, I am willing to spend up to $220 a night and hopefully want a 4* but realistically a 3-3.5*.I am happy to stay at the following areas: CPS, ESB, MSG, MTE, MTW, TS.Should I be splitting my bid? Also, do I have a better chance at winning a better hotel for a cheaper price at locations such as Chelsea, UWS, Downtown? This is my first trip to NYC and I'm coming from Australia so please advise if I am better off spending more to be closer to the action or whether these areas are also good to stay at as a tourist. If so, please include them in the bidding strategy.Thank you so much for your help
thereuare Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding!Adding more zones always increases your chances since it gives more hotels the opportunity to accept your bid. However, this is one of the most expensive 'non-event' weeks of the year in NYC as the city fills with holiday shoppers. Before bidding, what are your thoughts if were you were to land a very small room (~150sq. feet) or a hotel 15 minute walk from the subway... would either/both of these scenarios be acceptable/not acceptable? (this will tell us which zones you may need to exclude from bidding)Also, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.. albs_99 Posted September 18, 2011 Author Report Posted September 18, 2011 In regards to splitting the bid, I am in your experienced hands. Whatever you think goes.I don't mind getting a small room but would prefer to be closer to the subway (that being said, I don't want to spend an extra $100 a night simply to be closer to the subway.)Thank you for your help
thereuare Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 Please reply to this thread tomorrow which will put it back in the queue to be reviewed... it's late here at the moment and i'll move time to research your options tomorrow.
