woodsdevil Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Hi,I have been checking out on both priceline and hotwire sites for past one month since our travel plans have beenconfirmed and there are nothing listed for anything below $174 (ex tax). Is it possible to get anything good below $150 a night? Is it a busy period then? Please advise. Thank you in advance.

woodsdevil Posted September 16, 2011 Author Report Posted September 16, 2011 Hi,Thanks. I've done that. So what's next?
thereuare Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Rates are a bit high for these dates but that's nothing unusual for this area as it's an event driven market... if Congress is in session, large rallies/protests, government meetings, conventions, etc, etc are taking place it can easily cause a spike in rates. What is your minimum star rating for this stay? In addition to the White House and Capitol Hill zones, is Dupont Circle an option? (as that is where the 3.5* HOTWIRE property for $175/nite is located)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. woodsdevil Posted September 16, 2011 Author Report Posted September 16, 2011 Yes I saw that. 3.5 stars is fine. What hotel is that? And do you think PRICELINE will get a better price?I did try on priceline till up to $185 a night and 3.5stars but striked out.
thereuare Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Did you include Dupont Circle in your bidding zones?HOTWIRE is down for maintenance at the moment, once they're back up, add a reply to this thread with the amenities associated with the 3.5* property and we'll have a look. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. woodsdevil Posted September 16, 2011 Author Report Posted September 16, 2011 No I didnt include Dupont Circle, prefer downtown or capitol hill.
thereuare Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 If you're not bidding Dupont Circle then the $175/nite HOTWIRE rate should be used in comparison since it's not located in the zones you are bidding... it would be the same as including Arlington or Bethesda in your price comparison, which isn't valid since you're not bidding those zones. As far as the HOTWIRE hotel in Dupont Circle with:Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, TennisThese amenities match previous reports for the Hilton Embassy Row, which has since changed ownership and is now simply called 'The Embassy Row hotel'. If correct, this property is very close to Dupont Circle which would give you easy access to the metro to get 'downtown', and Dupont Circle is know to be a nice community itself, with a lot of bars, restaurants, etc.If you've already bid up to your limit your options come down to:increase your maximum bidadd other zoneswait it out and hope for lower prices (of course they could also move higher while you wait)SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID (likely not an option for a short trip)Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. woodsdevil Posted September 18, 2011 Author Report Posted September 18, 2011 Hi,In the end I increased my bid to $203 and got Hotel Palomar for the 3 nights in question.Slightly cheaper than if I have gone with Hotwire at $212. Listed rice for palomar was $340,so I am happy that I made some savings. It seems that week is just pricey. Thanks for your help
thereuare Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 Congratulations on your success!Hope you're pleased with this well reviewed property. I've added "Dupont Circle-Woodley Park" to your topic title... can you confirm that this is the Palomar location you received?Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
