Jonathan1 Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I am looking for a bidding strategy for 1 night stay at a NYC 3.5* or 4* hotel on 11/2/11.I would also like to stay in one of the following areas: CPS, ME, MW, and TS.Are there any other prime area's that you would suggest including? I will finishing my day in the Theater District and would like to stay somewhere in relatively close proximity (45 min walk).Ideally, I'd like to spend around $250, but I'm uncertain if this is realistic. Thanks for your help!

thereuare Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Are there any other prime area's that you would suggest including?Recommended zones will differ depending upon whether you're bidding for a 4* or 3.5*... while at the moment i think your budget may be difficult (this is an expensive nite in the city) are you willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel OR is your goal the least expensive 3.5* or better for this stay?Let us know the above and we'll then comment further regarding recommended zones. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. Jonathan1 Posted September 16, 2011 Author Report Posted September 16, 2011 Do you have any explanation as for why hotel prices are especially high on the night of November 2nd?My bidding goal is to secure the best price possible for a quality hotel and I would be willing to increase my budget to do so.
thereuare Posted September 17, 2011 Report Posted September 17, 2011 I don't know anything specific happening on this nite, but it's a solo Saturday nite (hotels often like to pair Friday and Saturday nite stays together, as selling a solo Saturday nite is harder to pair with somebody looking for a solo Friday nite) during a busy time of year, as well, there could be a conference or other event taking place in the city.I'm guessing you're looking at $275 for a 3.5* or 4* hotel... around $200 for a 3*. Assuming these numbers are in the right ballpark, what do you want to try for first (you could certainly try for a 4* hotel up to your original $250 but i think it will likely take ~$275 to be success for this nite.Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Jonathan1 Posted September 17, 2011 Author Report Posted September 17, 2011 I would like to clarify and say that I am looking for a hotel the night of Wednesday, November 2nd and not Saturday, February 11th.I am prepared to bid up to $275 as you indicated would be necessary to win a 4* property. Please advise accordingly. Thanks again!
thereuare Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 Not sure why i thought this was a Saturday nite, but i believe the same rates above still apply... although a 3* may be a little cheaper then posted (~$175)Sorry for the confusion... let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Jonathan1 Posted September 18, 2011 Author Report Posted September 18, 2011 What are the 5 re-bid zones? Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 19, 2011 Report Posted September 19, 2011 You need to know how to check your re-bid zones on your own, as they can change at any time, and therefore should be confirmed before every bidding cycle. Assuming you've already read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, try this:Start with the following...1) Use the PRICELINE search box on the upper right of this page, enter 'New York City' and your dates, and click "GO".2) List each zone that is offered in this region. 3) Next to each zone list the highest star rating offered in the zone. The way to determine the highest star rating offered in the zone is by selecting the first zone i the list, then scrolling down to see the highest star rating selectable (ie- not greyed out). NEXT UNcheck the selected zone, place a checkmark in the next zone, and repeat the process for each zone in the region. Each time you take note of the highest star rating in the zone, make sure that only ONE zone is selected above.4) post your findings and we'll take it from thereIf you don't follow the above just post back and we'll break it down further. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
