nycflying Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Ok so I went on priceline and bid for a 4 star hotel from 9/29 to 10/02.I need to be in downtown Minneapolis so I looked up all the rebid zones.According to the priceline app, someone got a room for $85 per night for those dates so I start the bidding at $80.Start at $80 per night and work my way up ($2 increments) to $105 per night. NOTHING!What the heck is going on? This is Minneapolis and it's not a holiday. Can anyone help out?
Romelle Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I tried looking at Hotwire for your dates. When I put in all three at once, it shows NO availability in downtown Mpls. However, when I put in just one day at a time it shows availability - $63, $103 and $153 (and a whopping $285 for a 3* for this Saturday night!). You definitely are running into some event. Do you have to have all three nights downtown? One of the adjacent zones work for you?In the same hotel? Splitting your bid into the first two nights and the third night could help.Romelle
Romelle Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Incidentally, I usually wait for the administrators to officially welcome you here, but I missed the fact that you are a newbie. I'm a member, but may I also welcome you. I'm sure they will be along shortly. Romelle
nycflying Posted September 15, 2011 Author Report Posted September 15, 2011 I've actually been keeping an eur. Out for about 2 months now. Really strange. I tried to look online and there doesn't seem to be any huge event going on.

AaronJB Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Not sure what's going on on these dates - possibly a game, convention or other event. The only HOTWIRE listing available for these dates in the downtown area is a 3* for $279. However, when you split your stay, rates are lower (although still elevated) - there's a 4.5* in the downtown zone for $139 when searching for the first pair of nights only and a 3* for $68.10/1-2 is the problem, although there is a different 4.5* in the downtown area showing for $162 and a 4* for $153. So, there isn't anything really for all three days together, but some for 10/1-2 and some different inventory for 9/29-10/1.Would you be okay with splitting your stay? What would be your desired budget per night?Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
nycflying Posted September 15, 2011 Author Report Posted September 15, 2011 Actually I am going there for a convention as well...but it's nothing too big. So splitting my stay would really be a pain.I need to stay downtown, will waiting a few days be better...or will lowering it to 3.5 starts be worth it?
Romelle Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 It wouldn't hurt to try the 3.5*s now. I'd guess they would have the same issue as the 4*s, but one never knows.Regarding waiting, one theory is that hotels hold blocks of rooms for conventions, not releasing them until the very last minute. I think your best bet might be to make a conventional cancelable back-up reservation, and then you can comfortably keep trying up until just before the cancellation deadline. Romelle

coffeelaker Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 The Twin Cities Marathon is that weekend, so you are talking 8000 people running the 10 miler and you are talking another 10,000 runners in the full marathon and they all start in downtown Minneapolis on that Sunday, Oct. 2. Good luck!
