sienna owner Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 so i've never used either Priceline or Hotwire, and figured it's about time....(i know, what tool me so long..LOL)going to Buffalo 9/23 - 9/25 and from what i'm reading this is the only hotel that's 3.5*so i can continue to add any zone, while keeping date, *'s the same and continue to increase my bids until it's accepted, but it's technically only ever going to bid on the Marriot in Buffalo, since that's the only one that 3.5* or above.so i could do:zone 1: $50zone 1,2: $55zone 1-3: $60zone 1-4: $65zone 1-5:$70which appears to be what ppl are getting it for around this time?? or am i reading that wrong too? thanks in advance
thereuare Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 Welcome to BetterBidding! To begin, you're not bidding on any one specific hotel, but a minimum star rating in a given zone. While the Marriott may be the only 3.5* hotel reported to the board in this zone, there could always be others recently added or not yet reported, or others which have been upgraded since last reported to the board. See the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List.As well, rates are date specific, and unfortunately the Marriott is currently showing sold-out for your dates above, so your chances of winning this specific property are greatly diminished.Let us know your thoughts/questions and how you'd like to proceed. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. sienna owner Posted September 15, 2011 Author Report Posted September 15, 2011 how's you find out about it being sold out? i only tried afterwards via their own website and tried to book 1 room and no availability.i know you can't specify the hotel, but if i were to lower the rating to 3*, i assume there's no way to guarantee to get hotel indigo over holiday inn.not too sure about Millennium Airport as there are so many bad reviews. course there are just as many good ones on trip advisor, but there's not mention on whether they paid full price or via priceline/hotwire.and then begs the same question, how do you get Millennium over Holiday Inn (since bother are 3*), which i heard is even worst? LOLthanks
Romelle Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 There is no way to guarantee, or even to improve the odds for, getting one hotel over another when bidding. You have to be prepared to accept any hotel within the zone map, at or above the star level at which you are bidding. I'm guessing thereuare did just what you did, and tried to book on the hotel's web site in order to determine its availability. Romelle
thereuare Posted September 15, 2011 Report Posted September 15, 2011 I'm guessing thereuare did just what you did, and tried to book on the hotel's web site in order to determine its availability.Yup! :)If there is a hotel in the zone you're trying to avoid then HOTWIRE can be a better option if you're able to identify the property before your purchase, or at the very least, identify what it's not (ie- if the hotel you're trying to avoid doesn't have a pool, you can then 'safely' purchase any hotel which shows the pool icon). HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, but it increases the chances for you to get what you want (or avoid what you don't want)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. buteos Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Just a note: The Buffalo Bills play at home September 25th. When I stayed at this hotel through Priceline last year for a flight out of Buffalo, there was also a home game. The opposing team stayed at this hotel, along with the reffing staff, and other NFL officials, PLUS the fans of the team. In this case, it was Cleveland, which might explain why I could still get the hotel through Priceline. It's the Pats this time, and I assume a lot more fans and media will be there. Just guessing, but the downtown hotels might not be as affected by a Bills game as the hotels to the south and east of Buffalo might be.HTH
